Introduction: The effectiveness of home high flow nasal cannula (HFNC) for the treatment of chronic respiratory failure in patients with chronic respiratory diseases (CRDs) has not been summarized. We aimed to conduct a systematic review of the effectiveness, adherence, and safety of HFNC in the long-term treatment of patients with chronic respiratory diseases and respiratory failure.

Methods: A systematic review was conducted.

Multiple myeloma, the second most common hematologic malignancy worldwide, is an aggressive disease with high morbidity and mortality rates. Although myeloma remains incurable, new treatments have improved patients' life expectancy and quality of life. However, as these therapies are administered for prolonged and often indefinite periods, their success depends on high treatment adherence and significant patient engagement.

Validation study of the Roberts Apperception Test for Children (RATC) in an adolescents' forensic sample.

The Roberts Apperception Test for Children (RATC) is a projective method developed by McArthur and Roberts (1982) to assess children and adolescents' behavioural, social and emotional functioning, concerns, conflicts and emotional management strategies through their perceptions of common interpersonal situations of everyday life. The aim of the present study is to contribute to the validation of the RATC in a forensic sample (N = 75) [constituted by a group of juvenile delinquents detained in educational centres (n = 40, 12-17 years old, 1-10 years of schooling) and a group of maltreated adolescents integrated in residential care (n = 35, 11-16 years old, 5-10 years of schooling)], studying its psychometric properties, such as reliability and criterion validity (convergent and discriminant validity), considering the results obtained in other instruments as external validation criteria: Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children - Third Edition (WISC-III) and Youth Self-Report (YSR). It also aims to search for some indicators based on means and standard deviations to interpret the scores obtained in RATC for these forensic contexts, through the comparisons within forensic groups and the comparisons of the forensic groups with a community sample.

Defibrotide in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation: A multicenter survey study of the Spanish Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Group (GETH).

Background: Defibrotide is approved in European Union for the treatment of severe sinusoidal obstruction syndrome (SOS) after HSCT. However, it has also been used for SOS prophylaxis, moderate SOS and in other complications such as transplant-associated thrombotic microangiopathy (TAM). The objective of this study was to evaluate current uses, effectiveness and safety of defibrotide in patients with HSCT.

Two case reports of desensitization in patients with hypersensitivity to iron.

Background: Iron deficiency anemia is a disease that can significantly compromise a patient's quality of life. Desensitization is a safe and effective treatment option for iron-deficient anemic patients who require intravenous iron despite their hypersensitivity to iron. This report describes a safe desensitization protocol for patients with iron hypersensitivity who require iron treatment for their clinical improvement.

The antidepressant-like effects of phloroglucinol and seven synthetic related derivatives were investigated using the tail suspension test (TST) in mice. Compounds 2-methyl-1-[2,4,6-trihydroxy-3-(2-methylpropanoyl)phenyl] propan-l-one (5), 1-(2,4,6-trihydroxyphenyl)ethan-l-one (6), 1-(3-acetyl-2,4,6-trihydroxyphenyl)ethan-l-one (7), 2-methyl-1 -[2,4,6-trihydroxy-3-(2-methylpropanoyl)-5-{ [2,4,6-trihydroxy-3,5-bis(2-methylpropanoyl)phenyl]methyl phenyl] propan-1-one (9) and 1-{3-acetyl-5-[(3,5-diacetyl-2,4,6-trihydroxyphenyl)methyl]-2,4,6-trihydroxyphenyl}ethan-1-one (10), containing acyl groups, decreased the immobile behavior of mice treated orally with equimolar doses of imipramine 20 mg/kg, with no alterations in locomotor activity as assessed by the open-field test. Limonene, limonene oxide and eight beta-amino alcohol derivatives obtained by synthesis were investigated for the effect on egg hatchability and mortality rates of newly hatched larvae of the cattle tick Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus. Background: Early recognition of heart disease in diabetics is a highly desirable goal, and diastolic dysfunction, one of its earliest manifestations, can be readily assessed by tissue Doppler imaging. We tested in normotensive diabetics without signs of coronary artery disease whether tissue Doppler imaging would improve the diagnosis of diastolic dysfunction beyond classical criteria and identify patients already presenting impaired cardiac performance.

Methods: We studied 79 patients (56 males, 55 type-2 diabetes mellitus) who underwent Doppler echocardiography, and exercise testing.

[Disturbances of calcium-PTH-vitamin D axis in chronic liver diseases].

Disturbances in Calcium-PTH-Vitamin D axis are frequently associated with chronic liver diseases (CLD). In patients with CLD, a trend toward decreased serum calcium and vitamin D has already been demonstrated with compensatory increases in PTH levels. Even though reduced vitamin D hydroxylation has been considered the most important mechanism for these alterations, recent studies demonstrates an adequate production of 25(OH) Vitamin D even in end-stage liver disease.

[Radical prostatectomy in hemophiliac patient].

Objectives: To describe a case of organ-confined prostate cancer in a patient with hemophilia who was treated with radical prostatectomy.

Methods: We report the medical history emphasizing the haematologic, anesthetic and surgical management.

Results: We demonstrate that a successful retropubic radical prostatectomy may be undertaken in a hemophilic patient, without major morbidity, after performing an adequate evaluation and taking pertinent measures.
