Medullary carcinoma accounts for about 5% of all thyroid malignancies. The tumor may produce other hormones in addition to calcitonin that typically occurs in the presence of distant metastases. The aim of this report is to present a case of invasive medullary thyroid carcinoma producing ACTH and serotonin.

Method: This descriptive transversal study analysed 943 hypertensive patients referred to a secondary healthcare unit from September 2010 to August 2012. Clinical and sociodemographic data as well as data regarding the liaison between secondary and primary care services were collected.
Unlabelled: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) alters the morphology and function of skeletal muscles, thereby decreasing patient physical capacity (PC) and quality of life (QoL). Intradialytic resistance training (IRT) is a pragmatic tool used to attenuate these complications. However, IRT has not been strongly adopted in nephrology care centers.

In order to track the disease, we conducted a population-based study in a medium-sized city in Southeastern Brazil. Based on instrument SCreening for Occult REnal Disease (SCORED), we evaluated 1,016 individuals with mean age of 44 (SD = 13.

The objective of this study was to describe quality of care indicators for individuals with diabetes in southeast Brazil and to explore associations among these indicators.
Methods: In this cross-sectional, observational study, health care providers filled out a questionnaire addressing health care structure and processes at 14 primary health care units (PHCUs).
Objective: to assess the structure and results obtained by the "Chronic Renal Patients Care Program" in a Brazilian city.
Method: epidemiological, cross-sectional study conducted in 14 PHC units and a secondary center from 2010 to 2013. The Donabedian Model was the methodological framework used.

Objective The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of sexual maturation on anthropometric parameters and basic physical characteristics in male adolescents aged from ten to fourteen years old. Materials and Methods The biological age was studied through the evaluation of the stage of the external genitalia development. Other evaluated characteristics were: total body mass (MCT), stature, body mass index (BMI), bone age (IO), strength, speed, agility and aerobic power.

However, the treatment with antagonists of mineralocorticoid receptor in these individuals has not properly addressed.
Objective: To evaluate the effects of mineralocorticoid receptor blockade on blood pressure, inflammatory, metabolic and renal parameters in non-diabetic hypertensive individuals with the metabolic syndrome.
Objective: We investigated the impact of weight loss on urinary albumin excretion (UAE) and creatinine clearance in obese patients with metabolic syndrome.
Methods: Thirty-five obese patients undertook a 12-week calorie-restricted diet. The patients underwent a metabolic (oral glucose tolerance test, plasma lipids, and uric acid) and renal hemodynamic evaluations (creatinine clearance and urinary albumin excretion) before (phase 1), and after the 12-week diet (phase 2).
Introduction: The role of aldosterone in the pathophysiology of the metabolic syndrome (MS)-related endothelial dysfunction has been the subject of recent research.
Objective: To evaluate the effects of aldosterone blockade on flow-mediated vasodilation (FMD) and on renal and metabolic parameters of patients with the MS.
Methods: 19 MS subjects underwent clinical examination, laboratory work-up (serum lipid profile, glucose and insulin; creatinine clearance; microalbuminuria investigation), ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM), and FMD analysis before and after 16 weeks of aldosterone blockade with spironolactone.
Objective: This study was aimed at evaluating the relationship between the dermatoglyphic characteristics and skeletal maturation by bone age in male adolescents aged 10 to 14.
Materials And Methods: The adolescents were divided into 3 groups (early, normal and late) by the difference between their bone and chronological age;their dermatoglyphic characteristics were also verified. The chi-square test was used for comparing the groups.

Objectives: Describe the characteristics of body composition, somatotype, basic physical qualities, dermatoglyphics and bone age regarding sexual maturation stages of boys.
Methods: A transversal study was carried out in 136 boys, between 10 and 14 years of age. Clinical assessment, physical examination and radiography of wrists and hands to calculate bone age were performed.
