Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) in an Elderly Male With Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) Viremia.

This is a case of a 75-year-old male with a complicated past medical history who presented initially with weakness, fevers, exertional dyspnea, cough, and confusion. His initial workup revealed elevated aspartate transaminase (AST), alanine transaminase (ALT), bilirubin, and D-dimer. Right upper quadrant (RUQ) ultrasound revealed a partially contracted gallbladder with gallstones, so he underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Right Atrial Mass and Severe Symptomatic Anemia as the Initial Presentation of Renal Cell Carcinoma.

We present a case of a 63-year-old male with a history significant for hypertension and a 45-pack-year smoking history who presented with severe symptomatic anemia. Rather quickly, upon imaging, he was found to have a 10 cm liver mass, a right renal mass, and a right atrial mass. A liver biopsy was performed and confirmed metastatic renal cell carcinoma (clear cell variant).

A Rare Case of Cleidocranial Dysplasia Causing Unilateral Lung Herniation in the Setting of an Acute Viral Infection.

Cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD) is a skeletal disorder with potential respiratory complications. We report a case of a 77-day-old male child with CCD who presents in respiratory distress. The infant was found to have a unilateral lung herniation secondary to an acute viral illness.

Extracorpeal Membrane Oxygenation in a Cystic Fibrosis Patient With Septic Shock Due to Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus.

This report presents the case of an 18-year-old male with cystic fibrosis (CF) who developed septic shock due to methicillin-resistant (MRSA) bacteremia. He had a history of poor nutritional status and uncontrolled CF-related diabetes, both contributing to his rapidly declining condition. Despite aggressive treatment, including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, his hospital course continued to deteriorate, including worsening respiratory failure and the need for lower extremity amputation secondary to ischemia.

Hemolytic Anemia Leading to Fulminant Hepatic Failure as the Initial Presentation of Wilson's Disease in a Young Female.

Wilson's disease (WD) is an autosomal recessive disorder that impairs copper metabolism. Copper accumulates in vital organs such as the brain, liver, and kidneys. The disease typically starts with copper accumulation in the liver and can initially present as acute hepatitis and hepatomegaly.

The role of endothelial ABCA1 expression in reverse cholesterol transport (RCT) was examined in transgenic mice, using the endothelial-specific Tie2 promoter. Human ABCA1 (hABCA1) was significantly expressed in endothelial cells (EC) of most tissues except the liver. Increased expression of ABCA1 was not observed in resident peritoneal macrophages.
