Amyloid-β (Aβ) accumulation caused by an imbalance of the production and clearance of Aβ in the brain is associated with the development of Alzheimer's disease (ad). Apolipoprotein E (ApoE) (the strongest genetic risk factor) enhances Aβ clearance, preventing Aβ deposition.
