We present a toddler with acute sphenoid sinusitis presenting as status epilepticus with fever, intracranial abscess and meningitis. Cerebrospinal fluid analysis suggested bacterial meningitis, but polymerase chain reaction test was positive for human herpes virus 6. We highlight diagnosis and treatment of this uncommon condition.

AA, classified as a probable human carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), is produced via the Maillard reaction between reducing sugars and amino acids, particularly glucose, and asparagine, when foods are heated above 120 °C. This study aims to analyze the AA content in 91 popcorn samples, categorized by flavor (salted, butter, caramel, flavored, colored, unflavored) and cooking method (ready-to-eat, popcorn maker, microwave), and assess dietary AA exposure in the Spanish population.

Methods: DUALITY was a 48-week, single-center, randomized, open-label clinical trial in ART-naïve PWH. Participants were randomized (1:1) to receive ART with DTG+3TC (2DR group) or DTG+FTC/TAF (3DR group).

Background: Drug-drug interactions between antiretroviral treatment (ART) and cytostatics may have a negative impact in the prognosis of people with HIV (PWH) and cancer.
Objective: The objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of the implementation of interdisciplinary management and the type of ART in PWH diagnosed with lymphoid neoplasms.
Methods: This is a multicentric, retrospective observational cohort study including PWH diagnosed with lymphoid neoplasm who started first-line chemotherapy between 2008 and 2020.
"Horchata de chufa" is a beverage produced from tiger nut tubers, which yields a high amount of by-product. This study explored the functional properties of the Spanish tiger nut beverage (TNB) and its by-product (TNBP) together with the bioaccessibility and bioavailability of polyphenols . TNB and TNBP were characterized for polyphenols LC/MS/MS and underwent digestion (INFOGEST).

Objectives: To assess the safety and immunogenicity of a fourth vaccination (second booster) in individuals aged ≥75 years.
Methods: Participants were randomized to BNT162b2 (Comirnaty, 30 µg) or messenger RNA (mRNA)-1273 (Spikevax, 100 µg). The primary end point was the rate of two-fold antibody titer increase 14 days after vaccination, targeting the receptor binding domain (RBD) region of wild-type SARS-CoV-2.
Background: Since the emergence of the global mpox outbreak in May, 2022, more than 90 000 cases have been diagnosed across 110 countries, disproportionately affecting people with HIV. The durability of mpox-specific immunity is unclear and reinfections have been reported. We aimed to compare mpox immune responses up to 6 months after diagnosis in participants with and without HIV and assess their effect on disease severity and viral clearance dynamics.

Twenty samples of different origin are analyzed, cleaning treatments are applied, and the migration potential of these bisphenols into food is studied. BPM is absent in all samples, but a post-consumer recycled LDPE sample reveals high bisphenol concentrations, raising concerns, reaching 8540 ng/g, 370 ng/g, and 29 ng/g of BPA, BPS, and BPF, respectively.

Psychopathy is a multifaceted personality disorder characterized by distinct affective/interpersonal traits, including callousness-unemotionality/meanness, which are often considered the hallmarks of empathic deficits. It has been posited that the processing of others' pain could play an important role in empathy capabilities. This study aimed to investigate the influence of perspective taking on electrocortical responses during pain processing in relation to psychopathic callousness.

However, evidence in cocaine dependence is limited and mixed. This study examined the time course and component processes of attentional biases for cocaine-related cues in a sample of 47 outpatients (38 men) with cocaine use disorder (CUD) with varying durations of current abstinence.

Methods: This randomized, open-label, noninferiority, multicenter pilot study involved HIV-infected adults who met the following criteria: confirmed HIV-1 RNA <50 copies/mL for ≥6 months preceding the study randomization, treatment with at least 3 antiretroviral drugs, and a history of drug resistance mutations against at least 2 antiretroviral classes but remaining fully susceptible to darunavir (DRV) and integrase inhibitors. Participants were randomized 1:1 to switch to dolutegravir (DTG; 50 mg once per day) plus DRV boosted with cobicistat (DRV/c; 800/150 mg once per day; 2D group) or continue with their baseline regimen (standard-of-care [SOC] group).
Despite the widespread use of combined antiretroviral therapy (cART) and the subsequent decrease in AIDS-defining cancers, HIV-related lymphomas remain a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in people with HIV (PWH). Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) subtype in PWH. This lymphoma is a heterogeneous disease including morphological variants and molecular subtypes according to the cell of origin or the mutation profile.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAffective/interpersonal features of psychopathy have been consistently associated with diverse psychophysiological indicators of low threat sensitivity, suggesting an underlying deficit in the reactivity of the brain's defensive motivational system. This study examined the Cardiac Defense Response (CDR) -a complex pattern of heart rate changes in response to an aversive, intense, and unexpected stimulus- and its second accelerative component (A2), as a new physiological indicator of the fearlessness trait component of psychopathy. The differential contribution of dispositional fearlessness, externalizing proneness, and coldheartedness to the CDR pattern elicited during a defense psychophysiological test was examined in a mixed-gender sample of 156 undergraduates (62% women) assessed by the Psychopathic Personality Inventory-Revised (PPI-R).

Here, we report the interim results of the Phase IIb HH-2, where the immunogenicity and safety of a heterologous booster with PHH-1V is assessed versus a homologous booster with BNT162b2 at 14, 28 and 98 days after vaccine administration.
Methods: The HH-2 study is an ongoing multicentre, randomised, active-controlled, double-blind, non-inferiority Phase IIb trial, where participants 18 years or older who had received two doses of BNT162b2 were randomly assigned in a 2:1 ratio to receive a booster dose of vaccine-either heterologous (PHH-1V group) or homologous (BNT162b2 group)-in 10 centres in Spain.
One of the most prominent characteristics of psychopathy is a reduced processing of emotionally relevant information. However, it is still unclear how attentional mechanisms may modulate this deficit. The current study aimed to examine the impact of attentional focus on emotion processing in relation to the triarchic constructs of boldness, meanness, and disinhibition.

Methods: This prospective cohort study included 58 PWH in the HIV<200 group, 36 with CD4+ T-cell counts >500/µL (HIV>500 group), and 33 HIV-1-negative controls (control group). Antibodies against the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein (anti-S immunoglobulin [Ig] G) and the receptor-binding domain (anti-RBD IgG) were quantified before and 4 weeks after the first and the second doses of BNT162b2 or mRNA-1273 (at week 8).
Residual biomass gasification is a promising route for the production of H-rich syngas. However, the simultaneous formation of pollutants such as light hydrocarbons (HCs), benzene, toluene and xylenes (BTEX), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) during gasification must be controlled. As a result, this study evaluated the effect of temperature and catalytic reforming over a Rh-Pt/CeO-SiO catalyst during steam gasification of sugarcane residual biomass on syngas composition and pollutant removal.

This exposure is usually estimated from contamination levels of foodstuffs, which are the primary source of toxin exposure, and data on food consumption patterns. However, variations in contamination level, intestinal absorption, toxin distribution, and excretion lead to individual variations in toxin exposure that can be more readily measured with a biomarker.
