A novel approach to training educators to conduct school-based adolescent e-cigarette education and prevention: Using the Tobacco Prevention Toolkit.

Background And Objective: Emerging tobacco products, especially e-cigarettes, present a challenge for educators tasked with providing adolescent tobacco prevention education, as they typically have insufficient time to stay uptodate with the latest information on all tobacco products. To equip educators to implement e-cigarette and other prevention materials, we developed a novel, experiential training of the Tobacco Prevention Toolkit, comprising three components: (1) information session, (2) website navigation demonstration, and (3) hands-on curriculum demonstration allowing educators to present and practice Toolkit lessons.

Methods: We evaluated this experiential training using a post-training survey, conducted with 486 participants (75% female) from 21 separate trainings.

Pain neuroscience education has become a primary tool for managing persistent pain, based in part on the discovery that information about pain can change pain. Empathy is an essential component of our social lives, allowing us to understand and share other people's affective and sensory states, including pain. Evidence suggests a core neural network-including anterior insula (AI) and mid-cingulate cortex (MCC)-is involved in empathy for pain. However, a similar network is associated to empathy for non-pain affective states, raising the question whether empathy for pain is unique in its neural correlates.

A prospective masked observational study of uterine contraction frequency in twins.

Objective: This study was undertaken to compare uterine contraction frequency in twins versus singletons and to determine if contraction frequency can be an efficient predictor of spontaneous preterm birth in twin gestations.

Study Design: Fifty-nine twin and 306 singleton gestations were enrolled between 22 and 24 weeks at 11 centers. Contraction frequency was recorded with a home uterine activity monitor (HUAM) 2 or more times per day on 2 or more days per week until delivery or 36-6/7 weeks.

Objective: To examine the association between prelabor uterine contraction frequency (UCF) and the success of tocolytic therapy for preterm labor (PTL).

Study Design: Eleven centers conducted a prospective, observational study of UCF recorded between 22(0/7) and 36(6/7) weeks' gestational age or until delivery > or = 2 times/d on > or = 2 d/wk in women with singleton pregnancies with and without risk factors for preterm birth. Uterine contraction data obtained from patients diagnosed with PTL allowed comparison of mean UCF both before and after an acute episode of PTL treated with either intravenous, subcutaneous or oral tocolysis.
