The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency with which 3-week postoperative radiographs at the time of pin removal altered management plans in pediatric SCH fractures that were intraoperatively stable after closed reduction and percutaneous pinning (CRPP).
Methods: We prospectively recruited pediatric patients with SCH fractures managed by CRPP at our institution from June 2020 until June 2022, and reviewed retrospective data on pediatric SCH fractures managed surgically at our institution between April 2008 and March 2015.
Introduction: Globally, a shift is occurring to recognize the importance of young peoples' health and well-being, their unique health challenges, and the potential they hold as key drivers of change in their communities. In Haiti, one of the four leading causes of death for those 20-24 years old is pregnancy, childbirth, and the weeks after birth or at the end of a pregnancy. However, an intentional focus on equity-based approaches grounded in lived experience and epistemic justice is required considering entrenched structural inequities between service-users and service-providers in public and institutional spaces where co-creation happens.

The application of single-cell technologies in clinical nephrology remains elusive. We generated an atlas of transcriptionally defined cell types and cell states of human kidney disease by integrating single-cell signatures reported in the literature with newly generated signatures obtained from 5 patients with acute kidney injury. We used this information to develop kidney-specific cell-level information ExtractoR (K-CLIER), a transfer learning approach specifically tailored to evaluate the role of cell types/states on bulk RNAseq data.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFArterial and venous thromboses are classically considered distinct disease states, with arterial thrombosis mediated predominantly by platelets and therefore, treated with antiplatelet therapy, and venous thrombosis mediated by the plasmatic coagulation system and treated with anticoagulation. However, co-occurrence of arterial and venous events is common, and there is increasing evidence of shared risk factors and pathophysiologic overlap. This presents a management challenge: does the patient with venous and arterial thrombosis, require anticoagulation, antiplatelet therapy, or both? Herein, we present a structured approach to the evaluation and management of patients with venous thrombosis who are also at risk for or have a history of an arterial thromboembolic event.

We aimed to summarise the evidence on whether community level youth-led interventions can improve maternal and neonatal outcomes in LMICs.
Methods: We included experimental studies of youth-led interventions versus no intervention, standard care, or another intervention.
An intact barrier function of the skin is important in maintaining skin health. The regulation of the skin barrier depends on a multitude of molecular and immunological signaling pathways. By examining the regulation of a healthy skin barrier, including maintenance of the acid mantle and appropriate levels of ceramides, dermatologists can better formulate solutions to address issues that are related to a disrupted skin barrier.

However, when the patient is judged to be suitable for outpatient management, counseling and follow-up specialty care are frequently suboptimal.
Objectives: To establish an advanced practice provider (APP)-led rapid follow-up clinic to improve transitions of care for patients with newly diagnosed deep vein thrombosis or low-risk pulmonary embolism and to provide continued specialty care and support, including management of complications and medication access issues.
Background: Rescue of mitochondrial function is a promising neuroprotective strategy for Parkinson's disease (PD). Ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) has shown considerable promise as a mitochondrial rescue agent across a range of preclinical in vitro and in vivo models of PD.
Objectives: To investigate the safety and tolerability of high-dose UDCA in PD and determine midbrain target engagement.
