Objectives: Moebius syndrome (MS) is a rare congenital non-progressive rhombencephalic disorder mostly characterised by abducens and facial nerve palsy, but with a multifaceted clinical presentation. Isolated or multiple pituitary hormone deficiencies in the setting of MS have been occasionally reported, but the simultaneous involvement of three or more hypothalamic-pituitary axes has never been described. We hereby report the case of a girl with MS that showed a co-occurrence of GH-, TSH- and ACTH-deficiency.

Objective: To compare the ultrasonographic characteristics of masseter muscles in temporomandibular disorder (TMD) subjects with a diagnosis of myalgia of the masticatory muscles to a control population.

Method: In total, 45 TMD subjects with masseter muscle myalgia according to the Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders were compared with 45 control subjects. The masseter muscles of each subject were examined by ultrasonography (US) to assess the quantitative characteristic of local cross-sectional dimension (LCSD) and the qualitative parameters of intramuscular ultrasonographic appearance, anechoic areas, and isoechogenic areas.

The and isomers of [Sm(dicyclohexano-18-crown-6)(HO)]I exhibiting water molecules bound to the Sm ion have been isolated and characterized. Sm possesses an electrochemical potential sufficient for water reduction, and thus these complexes add to the recent body of evidence that the oxidation of Sm by water can operate by a mechanism that is not straightforward. These complexes are obtained by the direct addition of stoichiometric amounts of water to solutions of the respective Sm(dicyclohexano-18-crown-6)I isomers under an inert atmosphere.

The immune response in plants is regulated by several phytohormones and involves the overexpression of defense genes, including the pathogenesis-related () genes. The data reported in this paper indicate that nematodes can suppress the immune response by inhibiting the expression of defense genes. Transcripts from nine defense genes were detected by qRT-PCR in the roots of tomato plants at three and seven days post-inoculation (dpi) with living juveniles (J2s) of (root-knot nematodes, RKNs).

Skeletal muscles are heterogenous tissues composed of different myofiber types that can be classified as slow oxidative, fast oxidative, and fast glycolytic which are distinguished on the basis of their contractile and metabolic properties. Improving oxidative metabolism in skeletal muscles can prevent metabolic diseases and plays a protective role against muscle wasting in a number of neuromuscular diseases. Full compatible interactions between crop plants and endoparasitic sedentary nematodes (ESNs) lead to severe infestation of the roots and plant growth impairing, as well as to the increase of nematode population in the soil that is a threat for the next planting crop. In the absence of activators, basic plant defense is overcome by nematode secretion of effectors that suppress defense gene expression, inhibit ROS generation and the oxidative burst used by plants to hamper nematode feeding site settlement and limit its development and reproduction. Activators can be exogenously added as a preventive measure to prime plants and strengthen their defense against ESNs.

Ordinary Portland cement (OPC) is a cost-effective and conventional binder that is widely adopted in brownfield site remediation and redevelopment. Commercial formulations of beneficial microbes have been used to enrich the rhizosphere microbiome of tomato plants grown in pots located in a glasshouse. These plants have been subjected to attacks by soil-borne parasites, such as root-knot nematodes (RKNs), and herbivores, such as the miner insect The development of both parasites and the symptoms of their parasitism were restricted in these plants with respect to plants left untreated. A mixture, named in the text as Myco, containing plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR), opportunistic biocontrol fungi (BCF), and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) was more effective in limiting pest damage than a formulation containing the sole AMF (Ozor).

Genetic resistance in plants against incompatible pests is expressed by the activation of an immune system; however, the molecular mechanisms of pest recognition and expression of immunity, although long the object of investigation, are far from being fully understood. The immune response triggered by the infection of soil-borne parasites, such as root-knot nematodes (RKNs), to incompatible resistant tomato plants was studied and compared to the compatible response that occurred when RKNs attacked susceptible plants. In compatible interactions, the invading nematode juveniles were allowed to fully develop and reproduce, whilst that was impeded in incompatible interactions.

Thyroid disorders (TD) represent a remarkable share of all the late morbidities experienced following pediatric haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), with long-term reported occurrence often exceeding 70%. In addition, the data collected on wide cohorts of survivors assessed longitudinally outlined a progressive increase in the cumulative incidence of TD as far as 30 years following transplantation. Accordingly, a life-long monitoring of thyroid health is warranted among patients exposed to HSCT in childhood, in order to early detect TD and undertake a prompt dedicated treatment.
