Human endogenous retroviruses (HERVs) occupy a large portion of the human genome. Most HERVs are transcriptionally silent, but they can be reactivated during pathological states such as viral infection and certain cancers. The HERV-K HML-2 clade includes elements that recently integrated have in the human germ line and often contain intact open reading frames that possibly support peptide and protein expression.

We previously demonstrated that serotonylation and dopaminylation of Gln5 of histone H3 (H3Q5ser and H3Q5dop, respectively) are catalysed by transglutaminase 2 (TG2), and alter both local and global chromatin states. Here we found that TG2 additionally functions as an eraser and exchanger of H3 monoaminylations, including H3Q5 histaminylation (H3Q5his), which displays diurnally rhythmic expression in brain and contributes to circadian gene expression and behaviour.

Identifying strategies to support young adults' health following a diagnosis of cancer is important. Yoga may enhance health and could be delivered by videoconference.

The rapid development of highly effective vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 has altered the trajectory of the pandemic, and antiviral therapeutics have further reduced the number of COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths. Coronaviruses are enveloped, positive-sense, single-stranded RNA viruses that encode various structural and non-structural proteins, including those critical for viral RNA replication and evasion from innate immunity.

Lipid droplets are fat storage organelles composed of a protein envelope and lipid-rich core. Regulation of this protein envelope underlies differential lipid droplet formation and function. In melanoma, lipid droplet formation has been linked to tumor progression and metastasis, but it is unknown whether lipid droplet proteins play a role.

Adeno-associated virus (AAV)-mediated delivery of a floxed nanobody-TRPV1 into the striatum of adenosine-2a receptor-Cre drivers resulted in motor freezing when placed in a magnetic resonance imaging machine or adjacent to a transcranial magnetic stimulation device. Functional imaging and fiber photometry confirmed activation in response to magnetic fields.

Despite the association between the lung microbiota and disease, the nature of their relationship remains poorly understood, and culture isolation of these microorganisms could help to determine their role in lung physiology. Current procedures for processing samples from the lower respiratory tract have been shown to affect the viability of microorganisms, so it is crucial to develop new methods to improve their survival.

It is controversial whether patients with diffuse-type gastric carcinoma should undergo total or subtotal gastrectomy when feasible.

However, the suboptimal purity of EVPs isolated from peripheral blood plasma has posed a challenge of in-depth analysis of the EVP proteome. Here, we compared the effectiveness of different methods for isolating EVPs from healthy donor plasma, including ultracentrifugation (UC)-based protocols, phosphatidylserine-Tim4 interaction-based affinity capture (referred to as "PS"), and several commercial kits.

In particular, the potassium component of the diet acts as a switch in the distal convoluted tubule to reduce sodium reabsorption, similar to a diuretic but without the side effects. Previous trials to understand the mechanism of the DASH diet were based on animal models and did not characterize changes in human ion channel protein abundance.

Essential here is the quality control assessment of critical attributes, such as sequence fidelity, proper folding, and posttranslational modifications. Errors can lead to diminished bioactivity and, in the context of therapeutic proteins, an elevated risk for immunogenicity.

Aims: To assess possible seasonality in sperm quality and associations between semen parameters and several meteorological variables (temperature, humidity, apparent temperature and atmospheric pressure) in a large cohort of andrological patients.
Settings And Design: This was a retrospective, cross-sectional and correlational/descriptive study.

However, how mitochondria sense the abundance of metabolites and regulate metabolic homeostasis is not well understood. In this work, we focused on glutathione (GSH), a critical redox metabolite in mitochondria, and identified a feedback mechanism that controls its abundance through the mitochondrial GSH transporter, SLC25A39.

The latter two activities comprise an unconventional mechanism for initiating viral RNA 5' cap formation, while the role of NMPylation is unclear. While prior studies have shown that magnetic activation of ferritin-tagged ion channels allows cell-specific modulation of cellular activity, the large size of the constructs made the use of adeno-associated virus, AAV, the vector of choice for gene therapy, impractical. In addition, simple means for generating magnetic fields of sufficient strength have been lacking.
