Introduction: Although the prevalence of pain persisting after pregnancy or labour decreases with time, up to 35 % of women report pain 8 months to 12 years after childbirth. To prevent the development and reduce the impact of chronic pain, researchers and clinicians emphasize the importance of early diagnosis as well as timely and appropriate treatment. Previous studies have shown that when women with post-childbirth morbidities consult healthcare professionals during the first year following birth, their problems are often neglected, and they do not receive adequate treatment.

Background: Access to information is essential to achieving individual empowerment; meaning the ability to exercise control, manage one's own condition and make informed decisions. However, studies have shown that information provided to women regarding physiological changes during the postpartum period and postpartum health was inadequate, incorrect, or inconsistent.

Methods: The aim of this study was to explore informational support about pain persisting after childbirth and its consequences.

Objective: To describe women's experiences of chronic pain related to childbirth approximately one year after labour.

Design: A qualitative design with face-to-face interviews analysed using inductive qualitative content analysis.

Participants: Twenty women who reported chronic pain, with onset during pregnancy and/or following labour, approximately one year after childbirth.

Background and aims Although several studies have been conducted, knowledge about chronic pain and dyspareunia after childbirth is still limited. The aim of this study was to explore the prevalence of chronic pain 8 months after childbirth in a cohort of Swedish women. The characteristics of chronic pain, such as, pain intensity, localization and frequency as well as pain interference with daily activities were examined.

Background: Extremely low birth-weight (ELBW) infants frequently receive packed red blood cell (PRBC) transfusions. Recent studies have shown that more restrictive PRBC transfusion guidelines limit donor exposure and reduce transfusion-related costs without any increase in adverse clinical outcomes.

Purpose: We developed and implemented an evidence-based PRBC transfusion guideline for ELBW infants treated in our unit and then measured provider adherence to this guideline.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the concept of an "invisibility carpet" for linear water waves using both numerical simulations and experimental methods in a wavetank setup.
  • The research first examines a bounded problem in the wavetank configuration before simplifying it by testing the invisibility effect on a vertical dihedral using a structure of 18 trapezoidal poles.
  • The findings indicate that the designed structure successfully renders the dihedral invisible by manipulating the reflected wave patterns in the water.

Objective: The aim was to develop a drug-drug interaction database (SFINX) to be integrated into decision support systems or to be used in website solutions for clinical evaluation of interactions.

Methods: Key elements such as substance properties and names, drug formulations, text structures and references were defined before development of the database. Standard operating procedures for literature searches, text writing rules and a classification system for clinical relevance and documentation level were determined.

Introduction: Stockholm County Council is the largest health care provider in Sweden with an annual budget of US$ 5 billion and catering the needs of a metropolitan population of 2 million people. About 10% of health care costs are used on drugs. In 1996 Stockholm County Council decided to address the main problems associated with the process and the quality of drug prescribing.

As examples of nurse practitioners in primary care, Swedish district nurses have been shown, in several studies, to respond well to the general pressure to achieve higher productivity in health care. Yet they have less frequently been involved in studies of the detailed content of the service they provide. To maintain total service quality, change should not be brought about only for the sake of efficacy.

The effect of adjuvant combination chemotherapy when given to non-laparotomized patients in remission after radiotherapy in stage I or II non-Hodgkin's lymphoma was studied in a prospective randomized multicenter study. Locally extended field radiotherapy was given to a target absorbed dose of 40 Gy in 20 fractions. Fifty-five patients who were in complete remission 6 weeks after conclusion of radiotherapy were randomized to either no further therapy or to 9 cycles of CVP (cyclophosphamide + vincristine + prednisolone).

Staging laparotomy was performed in 36 patients with Hodgkin's disease. The surgical procedure changed the stage in 14 cases or 36% and also revealed subdiaphragmatic disease in 14 patients. Mixed cellularity and nodular sclerosis were the main histopathological types, contributing 44% and 42%, respectively, of the whole material.
