  • Penile fractures, caused by trauma to the erect penis, require quick surgical treatment to prevent long-term issues like erectile dysfunction.
  • A study on 87 patients revealed that 51% experienced erectile dysfunction post-surgery, with factors like smoking, surgical method, and delay in treatment increasing risks.
  • The study highlights the need for immediate care after a penile fracture and stresses the importance of sexual education to reduce such injuries, particularly among younger individuals.

Background: Synchronous abscesses of the prostate and seminal vesicles represent a rare but clinically significant form of purulent retention. They pose diagnostic and therapeutic challenges and are associated with considerable morbidity and a high risk of sepsis.

Case Presentation: We present the case of a 60-year-old Caucasian man with a history of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, who had a voluminous prostatic abscess associated with a right seminal vesicle abscess due to compression of the right ejaculatory duct, and who presented to our department with sepsis.

Objective: To scrutinize the progression of clinical reasoning and theoretical knowledge by comparing the impact of Clinical Reasoning-Based Learning (CRBL) sessions with interactive lectures (IL).

Methods: In this experimental study conducted from November 15, 2021, to May 7, 2022, we focused on second-year students in the second cycle of medical studies. Four specific urologic emergency scenarios (nephritic colic, macroscopic hematuria, acute scrotal pain, and urinary incontinence in men) were selected for interactive teaching sessions.

Article Synopsis
  • The modified 5-item frailty index (mFI-5) is a new tool that evaluates the risk of complications after percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) surgery, particularly in determining which patients are at higher risk based on their frailty status.
  • A study analyzing 320 PCNL patients identified differing levels of frailty, showing that severely frail patients were older and had more health issues, leading to a higher likelihood of post-operative complications like sepsis, blood loss, and longer hospital stays.
  • The findings suggest that the mFI-5 can effectively help healthcare providers identify high-risk patients pre-surgery, improving patient management and outcomes.

Fibrous pseudo tumor of the tunica vaginalis is a rare lesion affecting men representing a challenge in its diagnosis and treatment. We reported the case of a 17 year old male patient who presented for a right scrotal mass. Surgical resection of the mass was performed and the histological diagnosis was a fibrous pseudo tumor of the tunica vaginalis.

Article Synopsis
  • Post-traumatic rupture of the posterior urethra can severely affect young patients' urinary and erectile functions, making its management a topic of debate between early endoscopic realignment and other methods like suprapubic catheterization.
  • A study reviewed 26 patients who underwent early endoscopic realignment for complete posterior urethral rupture from 2010 to 2020, focusing on preoperative, perioperative, and postoperative outcomes.
  • The results showed that while some patients developed urethral stricture, the majority had successful micturition without significant complications, indicating that early endoscopic realignment can be an effective treatment option.

Article Synopsis
  • The study assessed the effectiveness of five scoring systems (qSOFA, MEWS, NEWS, SIRS, GREMP) in predicting ICU admissions for patients with emphysematous pyelonephritis (EPN).
  • Conducted over a 14-year period, the research involved 70 patients and found significant associations between ICU admissions and various clinical factors, such as respiration rate, blood pressure, and confusion.
  • Among the scoring systems, the NEWS score demonstrated the highest predictive capability for ICU admission, indicating its potential usefulness in quickly identifying at-risk EPN patients.

Introduction: The management of post-traumatic rupture of the posterior urethra remains controversial, leaving the choice between early endoscopic realignment (EER) or suprapubic catheterization with deferred urethroplasty. The objective is to compare the results of endoscopic realignment and those of urethroplasty in terms of voiding.

Patients And Methods: We underwent a retrospective study collating all patients managed for post-traumatic complete urethral rupture between 2010 and 2020.

Introduction: Once mostly discovered on autopsy, adrenal myelolipomas are now increasingly diagnosed due to the frequent use of modern imaging methods. However, bilaterality remains quite rare. We present the case of a 31 years old female patient treated in our department for a bilateral adrenal myelolipoma which revealed an unknown peripheral adrenal insufficiency.

  • A pyosalpinx is inflammation of the fallopian tube filled with pus, usually due to untreated pelvic inflammatory disease.
  • The case involved a 54-year-old African woman with high fever and severe flank pain, where imaging revealed complications leading to obstructed kidney function due to a mass effect from the pyosalpinx.
  • Effective treatment required both drainage procedures and antibiotics to manage the obstructive kidney issue related to the pyosalpinx.

Considering the proximity of the lower urinary tract to gynecologic organs, several iatrogenic injuries of the bladder or ureters can occur. We report the case of 25 year old woman who suffered from bilateral ureteral injury causing renal failure following a laparoscopic detorsion of the left ovarian cyst.Double J stents were placed for 2 months with a favorable post operative course.

Introduction Radical retropubic prostatectomy is one of the standard treatments for localized prostate cancer. Evaluating the severity of postoperative urinary incontinence is primordial to guiding the treatment choice, and it still lacks standardization, hence the value of assessing the quality of life. Methods We conducted a retrospective study between January 2014 and December 2018 in the Urology Department of La Rabta Hospital, involving 30 patients followed for localized prostate cancer treated with radical prostatectomy for at least one year.
