Background: Following the Beirut explosion, our university hospital received at least 350 casualties. Subsequently, infection control standard practices were compromised. Concerns for Multi-Drug Resistant Organisms (MDROs) infections in injured patients and a resulting hospital outbreak were raised.

Methods: This was a single-centre retrospective observational study of 491 patients, including 152 patients with T2DM, who were hospitalised for COVID-19 between 20 August 2020 and 21 April 2021. Data on clinical characteristics, laboratory and radiological findings and outcomes were collected from the electronic medical records.
Background: There are conflicting reports of the interaction between COVID-19 and HIV infection among coinfected individuals, and there is a particular dearth of evidence among populations in the Middle East.
Aim: To determine if living with HIV and use of antiretroviral therapy increases susceptibility to, and severity of, COVID-19.
Methods: This cross-sectional study was based on telephone survey of COVID-19 symptoms duration and clinical course among 200 people living with HIV (PLWHs) and a review of medical records in Beirut, Lebanon, during Spring 2021.
This study aims to describe COVID-19 patients characteristics, laboratory and imaging results, and the different outcomes of patients admitted to the Lebanese American University Medical Center-Rizk Hospital over a period of 9 months. In this observational retrospective study, data were obtained from electronic medical records of 491 male and female patients from the ages of 17 to 97. Analysis of the patients was performed in 3 periods: August 2020 to October 20 November 202020 to January 2021 and February 2021 to April 2021 corresponding with 3 waves of newly diagnosed cases during this period.

The present study compares the clinical characteristics and outcomes of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 receiving different anticoagulation regimens with and without aspirin. This is a retrospective observational study of 491 patients hospitalized for COVID-19 from August 2020 to April 2021.

Immunomodulatory agent use in severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) may predispose such infections. Here, we present a 75-year-old male patient who presented with fever and altered general status after severe COVID-19 infection and developed cryptococcal meningitis.

Healthcare workers (HCW) are at high risk of acquiring the infection and transmitting it to others. Seroprevalence for COVID-19 among HCW varies between countries, hospitals in the same country and even among different departments in the same hospital.

In the past, it was known that the frontrunner in such infections is s with little emphasis placed on non-albicans species (NAC). Studies worldwide have shown a rise in fungal infections attributed to non-albicans species.

Besides, we integrated experts' opinions and recommendations to offer future directions to improve the quality of care and the overall landscape of HIV in the Middle East.
Methods: This review article is based on a comprehensive literature search and the outcomes of several regional meetings that discussed the challenges faced by patients living with HIV in the Middle East.
Background: The impact of pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs) on the burden of invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) and serotype distribution was examined across age groups from data collected by the Lebanese Inter-Hospital Pneumococcal Surveillance Program.
Methods: Between 2005 and 2020, 593 invasive isolates were collected from 79 hospitals throughout Lebanon. Serotypes and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) profiles were identified, and trends compared over 3 eras: PCV7, post-PCV7/ pre-PCV13, and PCV13 eras.
Introduction: There is lack of universal agreement on the management of COVID-19. Intravenous high dose vitamin C (HDVC), remdesivir (RDV), and favipiravir (FPV) have been suggested as part of the treatment regimens and only RDV is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) so far. There is no study in Lebanon that addresses the descriptive cohort of HDVC and antiviral therapy amongst COVID-19 inpatients.

Identifying the aetiology can decrease the use of unnecessary antimicrobial therapy. In this study, we intend to determine the pathogenic agents responsible for respiratory infections in patients presenting to the emergency department of several Lebanese hospitals.

New adverse events have emerged since these vaccines have reached market. Although no clear association between messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) vaccines and autoimmunity has emerged, the significance of such an association warrants further exploration.

Pharmacologically targeting the different mechanisms of endothelial dysfunction may improve clinical outcomes and lead to reduced morbidity and mortality. In this pilot, double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial, we assigned patients who were admitted to the hospital with mild, moderate, or severe COVID-19 infection to receive, on top of optimal medical therapy, either an endothelial protocol consisting of (Nicorandil, L-arginine, folate, Nebivolol, and atorvastatin) or placebo for up to 14 days.

These variants are identified and tracked via the marker mutations they carry, and the classification system put in place following tremendous sequencing efforts. In this study, the genomes of 1,230 Lebanese SARS-CoV-2 strains collected throughout 2 years of the outbreak in Lebanon were analyzed, 115 of which sequenced within this project.

The actual number of cases is likely to be higher. We conducted a serological study from October 2020 to April 2021 to estimate the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 neutralizing antibodies and identify associated factors.

Consequently, PLHIV are experiencing non-acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) associated comorbid conditions including diabetes, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease. The aim of this study is to determine the frequency of non-AIDS associated comorbid conditions among a cohort of PLHIV on cART in Lebanon.

We used data from an HIV prevention study in Lebanon with 226 YMSM aged 18-29 to assess the psychometric characteristics of our scale, Judgmental Communication with Peers about Sex (JCPS). The construct validity of the JCPS scale was supported by it being negatively correlated with general social support, percentage of alters perceived to be supportive, and the percentage of peers who are perceived to use condoms.

As a result, several antithrombotic modalities have been implicated in the treatment of this disease. This study aimed to identify if therapeutic anticoagulation (TAC) or concurrent use of antiplatelet and anticoagulants was associated with an improved outcome in this patient population.

With the genome sequencing of strains from various countries, several classification systems were established via genome comparison. For instance, the GISAID clades classification highlights key mutations in the encoded proteins that could potentially affect the virus' infectivity and transmission rates.
