Seizure Induced by Defecation in a 15-Year Old Autistic Patient: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Epilepsy in autism is a relatively common phenomenon. However, reflex seizures provoked by multifactorial stimuli are rare in these patients. We here reported the first case of defecation-induced seizure in a 15-year old autistic girl.

Cholelithiasis in Thalassemia Major Patients: A Report from the South-East of Iran.

Cholelithiasis and its predisposing factors are less characterized in thalassemia syndromes. In the present study, we assessed the prevalence of gallstones and related-risk factors among thalassemia major (TM) patients in south-east of Iran. The patients were recruited form a single center in Zabol city, south-east of Iran.

Hypothyroidism and Hypoparathyroidism in Thalassemia Major Patients: A Study in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, Iran.

Background: Hypothyroidism (HT) and hypoparathyroidism (HPT) are common endocrine complications in thalassemia major (TM) patients.

Objectives: In the present study, we assessed the frequency of HT and HPT in a population of TM patients in Southeast of Iran.

Methods: This cross sectional study was performed on 194 TM patients in Zabol, Sistan and Baluchestan Province, Iran, during February - July 2016.

Colonoscopic decompression of childhood sigmoid and cecal volvulus.

Cases of colonic volvulus in children are infrequently described in the literature. Here we describe the case of three patients with colonic volvulus. The first patient was a 10-year-old girl with abdominal dilation and pain and no bowel movement for 48 h.

A survey on rectal bleeding in children, a report from Iran.

Background/aim: Studies on the epidemiology of rectal bleeding in children are limited in Iran. Our aim was to assess etiologies of rectal bleeding in children in Iran. Materials and methods: We enrolled 730 children with rectal bleeding.

The effects of prebiotic supplementation on weight gain, diarrhoea, constipation, fever and respiratory tract infections in the first year of life.

Aim: This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of prebiotics on some common clinical ailments in healthy term infants.

Methods: Sixty healthy-term, breastfed (BF) infants were included. Along with these infants, 120 healthy-term formula-fed infants were randomly assigned to either the prebiotic formula (PF, n = 60) or regular formula (RF, n = 60) groups.

Coincidence of celiac disease with nongastrointestinal tumors in children.

The association of celiac disease (CD) with cancers of gastrointestinal origin has been noted. However, coincidence of CD with nongastrointestinal neoplasms is an unusual event. Here we present five children with concurrent CD and nongastrointestinal neoplasms.
