Telemedicine is a potential complementary modality with remarkable benefits for future healthcare delivery when incorporated appropriately. This review article examines the importance of telemedicine in various types of healthcare facilities and its utility in remote and underserved settings. PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus, and Embase databases were used for the literature review.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground And Objectives: The utilization of telemedicine has increased dramatically since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. In this review, we examined studies published within the past five years that investigated the impact of telemedicine on patient satisfaction.
Methods: Four investigators utilized PubMed and Google Scholar to find studies published within the past five years that assessed patient satisfaction with telemedicine in the field of adult primary care, using either the Press Ganey or CAHPS surveys.
Purpose: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in the United States, and sepsis significantly contributes to hospitalization and mortality. This study aims to assess the trends of sepsis-associated CVD mortality rates and variations in mortality based on demographics and regions in the US.
Methods: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Wide-ranging Online Data for Epidemiologic Research (CDC WONDER) database was used to identify CVD and sepsis-related deaths from 1999 to 2022.
Hypothesis: Western blot analysis of human prestin in the blood reveals multiple bands, rather than a single band.
Background: Previously, using the ELISA method, prestin was shown to be a good biomarker of outer hair cell (OHC) health and sensorineural hearing loss that could be measured in the blood. Recently, we found that a Western blot approach in an experimental model demonstrated three prestin bands providing greater insights into prestin in the blood and its origins.
Heart failure (HF) affects millions of people around the world and is a prevalent health issue in the United States. In many cases, HF has an intricate connection with mitral valvular disease (MVD), which can alter a patient's disease course. Factors such as gender, race, ethnicity, and social determinants of health impact the prevalence, etiology, and treatment of MVD associated with HF.

Pediatric Hepatoblastoma is a rare malignancy of the liver. This study used the National Cancer Database (NCDB) to identify 1068 patients diagnosed with hepatoblastoma from 2004 to 2020. χ 2 and Analysis of Variance testing, as well as Kaplan-Meier, Cox Regression, and multinomial logistic regression models were used.

However, demographic and regional differences still persist throughout the United States. In this study, we analyzed the temporal trends of demographic and geographical differences in CLRD-related mortality.

Method And Methodology: This study includes five-phase three randomized controlled clinical trials designed to study the impact of bevacizumab in combination with platinum-based chemotherapy compared with platinum-based chemotherapy alone.
Results: This study demonstrated significant improvement in the progression-free span but no improvement in overall survival in the treatment group when compared with the control group.
Background: Ewing sarcoma (EWS) is a malignancy which primarily arises in adolescence and has been studied extensively in this population. Much less is known about the rare patient cohort over the age of 40 at diagnosis. In this study, we describe the survival outcomes and clinical characteristics of this population.

IgA vasculitis formerly known as Henoch-Schonlein Purpura is characterized by leukocytoclastic vasculitis and IgA immune complex in small vessels of the affected organ. IgA vasculitis can involve any organ system depending upon the deposition of the IgA immune complex. IgA vasculitis is a clinical diagnosis which manifest with abdominal pain, arthralgia/arthritis, palpable purpura, and kidney involvement.

This study aimed to demonstrate the in vivo safety and antibacterial efficacy of titanium implants treated with a novel broad-spectrum biocidal compound (DBG21) against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Titanium (Ti) discs were covalently bound with DBG21.

While CAAs tend to be incidental findings on imaging, they result in complications, such as thrombosis, embolization, ischemia, arrhythmias, and heart failure.

To overcome the rate of lung cancer-related death, scientists discovered advanced therapies, including mutant epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase (EGFR-TK) inhibitors.
Observations: We conducted a meta-analysis to determine the safety profile of mutant EGFR-TK inhibitors in the management of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
The academic half-day (AHD) curriculum is an alternative to the noon conference (NC) approach. To date, there is little literature evaluating the transition from NC to AHD in internal medicine residency programs. We investigated the effectiveness of AHD by comparing in-training exam (ITE) and American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) certifying exam scores of residents before and after implementation of AHD.

The gastrointestinal (GI) tract is commonly affected as it has an abundance of B and T cells.
Aim: To determine typical GI-manifestations, risk factors for developing PTLD, and management.
Introduction: With an increase in number of cases of relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM), scientist have discovered various combination of medications among which one is daratumumab, Daratumumab is a mono-clonal antibody which attacks CD-38 markers present in abundance on the surface of myeloma cells and is used universally for the treatment of primary newly diagnosed multiple myeloma patients.
Methods And Methodology: This meta-analysis was conducted according to Cochrane Collaboration guidelines in which initially 679 articles were evaluated for relevance on abstract level followed by full text screening of final list of 45 articles. Out of the 45 articles, only 10 articles qualified for selection criteria for eligibility.
The prevalence of different cancers after heart transplant (HT) is unclear due to small and conflicting prior studies. Herein, we report a systematic review and meta-analysis to highlight the prevalence and pattern of malignancies post-HT. We conducted an extensive literature search on PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane databases for prospective or retrospective studies reporting malignancies after HT.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAtypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS) is a rare disorder characterized by a triad of thrombocytopenia, thrombotic microangiopathy, and acute renal failure. The background pathogenesis of aHUS stems from mutations in the genes of the complement cascade. However, certain circumstances including normal physiological conditions such as pregnancy, environmental factors, or triggers, can activate genetically predisposed individuals and lead to aHUS.

In light of the financial burden imposed by heart failure hospitalizations on the health care system, this area remains the focus of research, clinical advances, and policy changes aimed at improving the quality of care and outcomes. Despite practice guidelines, high-quality trial data, and consensus statements, barriers to therapy remain.

Long-term use of methamphetamines is associated with malignant hypertension, myocardial ischemia, pulmonary hypertension, and methamphetamines-associated cardiomyopathy. These effects are noted to be dose-dependent and potentially reversible with discontinuation of methamphetamines in the early stages when there is limited or no myocardial fibrosis.

It is common upon admission or during stay at a hospital or intensive care unit (ICU) for patients to present with or acquire a serum sodium abnormality. Hyponatremia, serum sodium level less than 135 mmol/L, frequently associated with critical illnesses such as heart failure and liver cirrhosis, is an indicator of disease severity as well as a risk factor for poor prognosis. Hypernatremia, serum sodium level greater than 145 mmol/L, results due to any ailment disabling a patient's modality of thirst or the ability to relieve it once sensed.
