Background: Arterial stiffness is a crucial factor in determining an increase in systolic blood pressure and pulse pressure and can also predict the development of cardiovascular disease (CVD). The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between arterial stiffness and future CVD.

In the present work, the antihypertensive effects of celery seed extract (Apium graveolens) with active ingredients, such as 3-n-butylphthalide, were studied as a drug supplement in the treatment of hypertension. This study was a randomized, triple-blind, placebo-controlled, cross-over clinical trial.
