Cortical Activity During Postural Recovery in Response to Predictable and Unpredictable Perturbations in Healthy Young and Older Adults: A Quantitative EEG Assessment.

Introduction: To investigate the effects of predictable and unpredictable external perturbations on cortical activity in healthy young and older adults.

Methods: Twenty healthy older and 19 healthy young adults were exposed to predictable and unpredictable external perturbations, and their cortical activity upon postural recovery was measured using a 32-channel quantitative encephalography. The absolute spectral power and coherence z-scores of cortical waves were analyzed through a 3-way mixed ANOVA.

Automatic segmentation of vertebrae in 3D CT images using adaptive fast 3D pulse coupled neural networks.

Two systems are presented for segmentation of vertebrae in a 3D computed tomography (CT) image. The first method extracts seven features from each voxel and uses a multi-layer perceptron neural network (MLPNN) to classify the voxel as vertebrae or background. In the second method, the segmentation is completed in two steps: first, a newly developed adaptive pulse coupled neural network (APCNN) directly applied to a given image segments vertebrae, then the result is refined using a median filter.

Rhinosinusitis predispose asthmatic patients to severe bronchial asthma.

In this study, we evaluated the relationship between rhinosinusitis to the severity of asthma in asthmatic patients.This cross-sectional study was conducted on 90 patients with asthma referring to Imam Khomeini Hospital in Ardabil city. Asthma control stepping method was used for staging of asthma severity.

Diagnosis of pneumothorax on F-18 FDG PET after transbronchial biopsy.

Transbronchial lung biopsy (TBLB) is associated with pneumothorax, 12% occurring 1 to 4 hours postprocedure (delayed pneumothorax). We report a case of a delayed pneumothorax first diagnosed on a positron emission tomography (PET) scan performed 5 days after TBLB. An early post-TBLB chest radiograph (after 1 hour) had not demonstrated any pneumothorax.
