Coaching in medical education is a valuable method for enhancing the well-being and job satisfaction of medical professionals, particularly through interactive conversations that foster self-awareness and independent action. A 90-min coaching training program, incorporating lectures and role-plays, was conducted to equip medical professionals with essential coaching skills. The program was well received, and there are plans to expand and tailor future programs to further develop these skills among various healthcare educators.

Moray eels (family Muraenidae) capture prey by directly biting, combining oral and pharyngeal jaw. During feeding motions, they exhibit various head manipulations, such as neurocranial elevation, ventral flexion, and horizontal shaking, with their postcranial region acting like the neck of amniotes.

Photoaged skin is characterized clinically by generalized wrinkling, a dry and loose appearance, and seborrheic keratoses, along with skin barrier dysfunction. Fucoxanthin, a xanthophyll carotenoid with a specific allenic bond and 5,6-monoepoxide in its structure, has been found to serve various functions as a food supplement.

Novex-3 is a short splice variant of connectin whose physiological function remains unknown. We have recently demonstrated using in vitro analyses that in addition to sarcomere expression, novex-3 was also expressed in cardiomyocyte nuclei exclusively during fetal life, where it provides elasticity/compliance to cardiomyocyte nuclei and promotes cardiomyocyte proliferation in the fetus, suggesting a non-sarcomeric function.

Ventricular stiffness, a fundamental parameter that defines ventricular diastolic functions in chordates, is typically analyzed using the end-diastolic pressure-volume relationship (EDPVR). However, comparing ventricular stiffness accurately across chambers of varying maximum volume capacities has been a long-standing challenge.

The lens continues to grow with age resulting in changes to the shape and to the GRIN profile. The present study aims to investigate how the ageing process may influence lens optical development.

Here, we present the case of symptomatic metastatic collecting duct carcinoma in which we observed an initial therapeutic effect of immune checkpoint inhibitors plus tyrosine kinase inhibitors.
Case Presentation: The patient was a 69-year-old male who was referred to our hospital for examination of a right chest tumor and related pain.
Adipocytes play a key role in energy storage and homeostasis. Although the role of transcription factors in adipocyte differentiation is known, the effect of endogenous metabolites of low molecular weight remains unclear. Here, we analyzed time-dependent changes in the levels of these metabolites throughout adipocyte differentiation, using metabolome analysis, and demonstrated that there is a positive correlation between cyclic adenosine diphosphate ribose (cADPR) and Pparγ mRNA expression used as a marker of differentiation.

We found that the daidzein and genistein derivatives, 8-prenyl daidzein (8-PD) and 8-prenyl genistein (8-PG), demonstrated a more potent effect than daidzein and genistein on repressing inflammatory responses in macrophages. Although IkB protein levels were unaltered, 8-PD and 8-PG repressed nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) activation, which was associated with reduced ERK1/2, JNK, and p38 MAPK activation and suppressed mitogen- and stress-activated kinase 1 phosphorylation.

However, pathogenic roles of the M232R substitution for the induction of prion disease have remained elusive because family history is usually absent in patients with M232R. In addition, the clinicopathologic phenotypes of patients with M232R are indistinguishable from those of sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease patients.

Photoaging is characterized by skin dysfunction and wrinkle formation predominantly caused by chronic exposure to ultraviolet (UV) irradiation. Collagen peptides are well-recognized as nutritional supplements for enhancing skin health. Gly-Pro, a dipeptide found in collagen as a major repetitive sequence, is considered a prospect collagen peptide derivative that displays anti-photoaging potential.

Oncorhynchus masou masou is an anadromous migratory fish of the Salmonidae family, and several ecological studies on it have been conducted; however, the cardiac functions of the fish are not well known. Therefore, we investigated ventricular diastolic function in landlocked (masu salmon) and sea-run (cherry salmon) types at 29-30 months post fertilization.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAdipocyte browning is one of the potential strategies for the prevention of obesity-related metabolic syndromes, but it is a complex process. Although previous studies make it increasingly clear that several transcription factors and enzymes are essential to induce browning, it is unclear what dynamic and metabolic changes occur in induction of browning. Here, we analyzed the effect of a beta-adrenergic receptor agonist (CL316243, accelerator of browning) on metabolic change in mice adipose tissue and plasma using metabolome analysis and speculated that browning is regulated partly by inosine 5'-monophosphate (IMP) metabolism.

Here, we report a protective role of outer mitochondrial membrane (OMM)-localized E3 ubiquitin ligase MITOL/MARCH5 against cardiac senescence and MI, partly through Drp1 clearance by OMM-associated degradation (OMMAD). Persistent Drp1 accumulation in cardiomyocyte-specific MITOL conditional-knockout mice induced mitochondrial fragmentation and dysfunction, including reduced ATP production and increased ROS generation, ultimately leading to myocardial senescence and chronic heart failure.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFFive sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) strains have been identified to date, based on differences in clinicopathological features of the patients, the biochemical properties of abnormal prion proteins, and transmission properties. Recent advances in our knowledge about iatrogenic transmission of sporadic CJD have raised the possibility that the infectivity of sporadic CJD strains through peripheral routes is different from that of intracranial infection. To test this possibility, here we assessed systematically the infectivity of sporadic CJD strains through the peripheral route for the first time using a mouse model expressing human prion protein.

D-3-phosphoglycerate dehydrogenase (PHGDH) is a key enzyme involved in the synthesis of l-serine. Despite the high serine content in silk proteins and the crucial role of PHGDH in serine biosynthesis, PHGDH has not been described in silkworms to date. Here, we identified PHGDH in the silkworm Bombyx mori and evaluated its biochemical properties.
