Polydopamine (PD), inspired by the wet adhesion mechanism of mussel foot proteins, has emerged as a promising adhesive material with wide-ranging applications. This study aimed to compare the adhesive properties of PD and Glass Ionomer Cement (GIC) on enamel and dentin substrates, evaluating PD's potential as an alternative adhesive in dental practice. A total of 120 human premolars were prepared, with 80 teeth allocated for Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analysis and 40 teeth reserved for shear bond strength testing.

The present study investigated the involvement of human papillomavirus (HPV)16 and HPV18 in oropharyngeal malignancies in order to understand the oncogenic mechanisms, and to identify biomarkers for early detection and treatment targets. Given the rising incidence of HPV-associated cancer, particularly in India, this holds significance in elucidating the molecular basis of these diseases. Structural validation of HPV16 and 18 oncoproteins E6 and E7 was conducted using computational tools, while gene expression profiles related to oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) were analyzed to assess differential expression.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide with high recurrence rates and resistance to conventional therapies. Recent studies have highlighted the pivotal role of oral cancer stem cells (OCSCs) in driving treatment resistance and tumor recurrence. OCSCs possess unique properties, including self-renewal, differentiation potential, and resistance to chemotherapy and radiotherapy, which contribute to their ability to survive treatment and initiate tumor relapse.

Background: Coronal microleakage, the passage of fluids and bacteria through the interface between the temporary restoration and the tooth structure, can potentially result in endodontic treatment failure.

Purpose: This study evaluated and compared the sealing efficacy of various temporary restorative materials utilized during endodontic procedures.

Methods: All seventy premolar teeth were extracted, measured, and restored, except for the negative control group, where the teeth were left whole.

Background: Dental composite resins are commonly used due to their excellent physical and mechanical properties. However, exposure to beverages like Coca-Cola, Apple juice, and Black coffee can negatively impact these materials. This study examined the effects of these drinks on the surface microhardness and surface roughness of Nanohybrid, Giomer, and Dual-Cure Bulk-fill resin composites.

Article Synopsis
  • India's commitment to the "Leave No One Behind" principle of the Sustainable Development Goals highlights the urgent need for data on the oral health of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), leading to a systematic review of existing literature.
  • The review included 15 studies after searching extensive databases, revealing that while 91% of IDD children regularly use toothbrushes, a significant 38% still have poor oral hygiene and 64% suffer from dental caries.
  • The study concludes that existing oral health practices are inadequate and calls for tailored health programs to better meet the specific needs of children with IDD in India.

Oral cancer, the most prevalent cancer worldwide, is far more likely to occur after the age of forty-five, according to the World Health Organization. Although many biomarkers have been discovered over the years using non-invasive saliva samples, biopsies, and human blood, these biomarkers have not been incorporated into standard clinical practice. Investigating the function of microRNAs (miRNAs) in the diagnosis, aetiology, prognosis, and treatment of oral cancer has drawn more attention in recent years.

The occurrence of morphological deviations in root canal anatomy is challenging and can influence treatment outcomes. While mandibular second molars typically have 2 roots and 3 canals, a unique case emerged in a 23-year-old Indian male with a symptomatic permanent left mandibular second molar showing three distal, two mesial canals, and two roots. The tooth presented as non-mobile but tender on percussion.

Background: Apexification is a procedure that promotes apical closure by forming mineralized tissue in the apex region of a nonvital young permanent tooth. Calcium silicate-based cement like Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and Biodentine are commonly employed as apical barriers to facilitate this process. Microleakage, defined as the leakage along the junction between the canal wall and filling material, is a crucial aspect to assess in MTA and Biodentine applications as apical barriers, as it directly impacts the prevention of bacterial seepage and maintenance of structural integrity.

Objectives: The objective of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effects of different preparation designs on the mean colour change (ΔE), marginal adaptation, fracture resistance, and fracture types of maxillary and mandibular premolar endocrowns (ECs).

Methodology: A total of 40 extracted maxillary and mandibular premolars were treated endodontically, and each type was subdivided according to the remaining axial height (remaining walls on all surfaces; 2-4 mm) and 2 mm inside the pulp chamber. Specimens were immersed in coffee for 14 days, ΔE was determined, marginal adaptation was observed, fracture forces test was conducted, and the samples were examined visually at 10× magnification to evaluate failure type and identify fracture origin.
