Epigenetic silencing and blockade of latency reversal by an HIV-1 encoded antisense transcript.

The mechanisms that regulate human immunodeficiency virus 1 (HIV-1) latency are not fully elucidated. We reported that an HIV-1 antisense transcript (AST) induces epigenetic modifications at the HIV-1 promoter causing a closed chromatin state that suppresses viral transcription. Here we show that ectopic expression of AST in CD4+ T-cells from people with HIV-1 under antiretroviral therapy blocks latency reversal in response to pharmacologic and T-cell receptor stimulation, enforcing transcriptional silencing.

Experimental study on the quasi-static and dynamic tensile behaviour of thermally treated Barakar sandstone in Jharia coal mine fire region, India.

In the present study, the effect of mild to high-temperature regimes on the quasi-static and dynamic tensile behaviours of Barakar sandstone from the Jharia coal mine fire region has been experimentally investigated. The experimental work has been performed on Brazilian disk specimens of Barakar sandstone, which are thermally treated up to 800 °C. The quasi-static and dynamic split tensile strength tests were carried out on a servo-controlled universal testing machine and Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB), respectively.

Effects of video game-based therapy in an adolescent with cerebral palsy: A case report.

Background: Herein, we report the case of a 13-year-old boy with spastic quadriplegia cerebral palsy (CP) at Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) level II, engaging in a 6-wk video game-based therapy (VBT) program. This study aimed to offer essential insights regarding VBT's impact on enhancing the physical function and improving the quality of life (QoL) of adolescents diagnosed with CP. This report provides a distinctive viewpoint that can inform and direct future clinical practices and research endeavors.

Histological Spectrum of Clinical Kidney Disease in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients with special Reference to nonalbuminuric Diabetic Nephropathy: A Kidney Biopsy-based Study.

Background: Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is an important and catastrophic complication of diabetes mellitus (DM). Kidney disease has heterogeneity in histology in diabetes patients and includes both diabetic kidney disease (DKD) (albuminuric or nonalbuminuric) and nondiabetic kidney disease (NDKD) either in isolation or in coexistence with DN. Diabetic nephropathy is hard to overturn.

Leuconostoc, a masquerading pathogen in oral cancer patient: A rare case report.

Osteoradionecrosis is the most common cause of mandibular osteomyelitis. Here we are reporting a case of osteomyelitis of the mandible caused by Leuconostoc mesenteroides spp cremoris. The frequency of Leuconostoc infections are under reported mainly due to its difficult identification.

Flexural band gaps and vibration control of a periodic railway track.

Periodic structures exhibit unique band gap characteristics by virtue of which they behave as vibro-acoustic filters thereby allowing only waves within a certain frequency range to pass through. In this paper, lateral and vertical flexural wave propagation and vibration control of a railway track periodically supported on rigid sleepers using fastenings are studied in depth. The dispersion relations in both lateral and vertical directions are obtained using the Floquet-Bloch theorem and the resulting dispersion curves are verified using finite element models.

Intra-operative cerebral blood flow assessment by indocyanine green video-angiography after temporary arterial occlusion in aneurysm surgery and its clinical implications: a prospective study.

Objective: Indocyanine green video angiography (ICG-VA) is a routine while performing vascular surgery to assess patency of perforators, completeness of clipping and/or to assess patency of anastomosis. Its usefulness in assessing cerebral blood flow and perfusion is not well studied. This study is aimed to assess the cerebral blood flow and perfusion after temporary clipping and to correlate with the risk of ischemia.

Nutritional Status Among School-Age Children of Bangladeshi Tea Garden Workers.

Background: While considerable progress has been made in reducing undernutrition in Bangladesh, regional disparities are known to exist, and certain population subgroups may lag behind.

Objective: To characterize nutritional status among school-age children in a historically marginalized population of Bangladesh.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional assessment of children attending 14 nongovernmental organization-operated schools serving the tea estate population in Kulaura Upazila, Sylhet Division.

Methods: The interaction of Plasmodium falciparum Rab7 (PfRab7) with vacuolar protein sorting-associated protein 26 (PfVPS26) of retromer complex was shown by coimmunoprecipitation (co-IP).

An Analysis of Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Thickness before and after Pituitary Adenoma Surgery and its Correlation with Visual Acuity.

Introduction: Pituitary adenomas comprise approximately 10% of all intracranial tumors. Initially, subtle changes occur in the field of vision, which are difficult to assess clinically. It has been seen that following surgery of pituitary macroadenoma, total recovery of normal vision occurs in 35% of the patients, improvement of vision occurs in 60%, and in the rest there is no change in vision.

Flexural band gaps and response attenuation of periodic piping systems enhanced with localized and distributed resonators.

Novel metamaterial concepts can be used to economically reduce flexural vibrations in coupled pipe-rack systems. Here, we model pipe on flexible supports as periodic systems and formulate dispersion relations using Floquet-Bloch theory which is verified by a finite element model. Owing to the flexibility of the coupled system, a narrow pass band is created in low frequency regime, in contrast to the case of pipe without any rack.

Etiopathological Study of Crescentic Glomerulonephritis and its Outcome: A Retrospective Analysis.

Introduction: Crescentic Glomerulonephritis (CGN) is most aggressive structural phenotype and accounts for 2%-7% of renal biopsy in most series. The aim of study was to assess the clinical feature and outcome of CGN at our centre.

Material And Methods: The renal biopsy performed during the period of January 2015 to January 2018 was studied and patients showing crescentic glomerulonephritis on histology were selected for this study.

Introduction: The safe and effective treatment of HIV-associated renal diseases with cART can decrease the progression to ESRD and also improve the morbidity and mortality secondary to renal failure.

Material And Methods: HIV positive patients with clinical kidney disease were the subjects of this study. The diagnosis of HIV was established using immunochromatographic assays.

Solitary Primary Central Nervous System Plasmablastic Lymphoma in a Young Immunocompetent Female: Report on an Extremely Rare Entity with Review of Literature.

Primary central nervous system (CNS) plasmablastic lymphoma (PBL) in immunocompetent patients is an extremely rare disease, and only three cases had been reported till date. We present a case of a young female of age 21 years immunocompetent human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) negative, presented to us with left frontal lesion with weakness of the right upper and lower limbs for 9 months. Magnetic resonance images showed ring-enhancing lesions resembling a cavernoma or tuberculoma.

Lower intakes of protein, carbohydrate, and energy are associated with increased global DNA methylation in 2- to 3-year-old urban slum children in Bangladesh.

Stunting in children is a global public health concern. We investigated how global DNA methylation relates to food intakes, dietary diversity, and development of stunting among 324 children aged 24-36 months in a slum community in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Stunted children (height-for-age z score ˂-2; n = 162) and their age- and sex-matched nonstunted counterparts (height-for-age z score ˃-1; n = 162) were selected by active community surveillance.

Outcomes of hospital-acquired acute kidney injury in elderly patients: a single-centre study.

Background: HAAKI is a common clinical problem in hospitalized patients. Its incidence is high in older patients and carries worse prognosis. The presence of multiple co-morbidities, aging process, and frequent diagnostic and therapeutic interventions predispose elderly patients to HAAKI.

Detection of retromer assembly in Plasmodium falciparum by immunosensing coupled to Surface Plasmon Resonance.

Retromer complex plays a crucial role in intracellular protein trafficking and is conserved throughout the eukaryotes including malaria parasite, Plasmodium falciparum, where it is partially conserved. The assembly of retromer complex in RBC stages of malarial parasite is extremely difficult to explore because of its complicated physiology, small size, and intra-erythrocytic location. Nonetheless, understanding of retromer assembly may pave new ways for the development of novel antimalarials targeting parasite-specific protein trafficking pathways.

Autism Spectrum disorders (ASD) in South Asia: a systematic review.

Background: Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are a group of complex neurodevelopmental disorders. The prevalence of ASD in many South Asian countries is still unknown. The aim of this study was to systematically review available epidemiological studies of ASD in this region to identify gaps in our current knowledge.

Selective scavenging of intra-mitochondrial superoxide corrects diclofenac-induced mitochondrial dysfunction and gastric injury: A novel gastroprotective mechanism independent of gastric acid suppression.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are widely used to treat multiple inflammatory diseases and pain but severe gastric mucosal damage is the worst outcome of NSAID-therapy. Here we report that mitoTEMPO, a mitochondrially targeted superoxide (O) scavenger protected as well as healed gastric injury induced by diclofenac (DCF), the most commonly used NSAID. Common existing therapy against gastric injury involves suppression of gastric acid secretion by proton pump inhibitors and histamine H receptor antagonists; however, dyspepsia, vitamin B12 deficiency and gastric microfloral dysbalance are the major drawbacks of acid suppression.

Antimalarial Activity of Small-Molecule Benzothiazole Hydrazones.

We synthesized a new series of conjugated hydrazones that were found to be active against malaria parasite in vitro, as well as in vivo in a murine model. These hydrazones concentration-dependently chelated free iron and offered antimalarial activity. Upon screening of the synthesized hydrazones, compound 5f was found to be the most active iron chelator, as well as antiplasmodial.

Reliability and Validity of EN-TreeM Dynamometer for Measurement of Shoulder Rotator Strength in Volleyball Players.

Introduction: Volleyball involves repeated forceful arm actions that produce a high incidence of shoulder injury. Shoulder rotator strength ratio is an important predictor of the likelihood of shoulder injury, especially, secondary shoulder impingement and instability. Therefore, assessment of muscle strength of external and internal rotators of shoulder is imperative to establish the profiles of shoulder rotator performance, strength ratios, and shoulder mobility of volleyball players.
