Cancer has a high rate of incidence and mortality throughout the world. Although several conventional approaches have been developed for the treatment of cancer, such as surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and thermal therapy, they have remarkable disadvantages which result in inefficient treatment of cancer. For example, immunogenicity, prolonged treatment, non-specificity, metastasis and high cost of treatment, are considered as the major drawbacks of chemotherapy.

Article Synopsis
  • Corynebacterium diphtheriae is a multi-drug resistant bacteria that causes diphtheria, a serious respiratory illness that can lead to severe nervous system issues if untreated.
  • The study focused on the MtrA response regulator of this bacteria, as it is crucial for bacterial pathogenesis and cell division, and aimed to develop drugs inhibiting this protein using computational methods.
  • Three promising small molecule inhibitors were identified through molecular docking and dynamics simulations, with the need for further in vivo and in vitro studies to confirm their effectiveness as therapeutic agents for C. diphtheriae infections.

The utilization of medicinal plant extracts in therapeutics has been hindered by various challenges, including poor bioavailability and stability issues. Nanovesicular delivery systems have emerged as promising tools to overcome these limitations by enhancing the solubility, bioavailability, and targeted delivery of bioactive compounds from medicinal plants. This review explores the applications of nanovesicular delivery systems in antibacterial and anticancer therapeutics using medicinal plant extracts.

Peptidoglycan is a carbohydrate with a cross-linked structure that protects the cytoplasmic membrane of bacterial cells from damage. The mechanism of peptidoglycan biosynthesis involves the main synthesizing enzyme glycosyltransferase MurG, which is known as a potential target for antibiotic therapy. Many MurG inhibitors have been recognized as MurG targets, but high toxicity and drug-resistant Escherichia coli strains remain the most important problems for further development.

Background And Aim: Gentamicin (GM) is one of the most effective antibiotics for severe, life-threatening Gram-negative infections. Nevertheless, its clinical use has been restrained because of its nephrotoxic potential. Royal jelly (RJ) and aliskiren (ALK) can individually prevent such toxic effects.

Background: Previous studies reported that 17β-estradiol may influence the progression of diabetic renal disease in females. The present study was intended to provide an insight into the specific effects of progesterone, the other female sex hormone, in the diabetic renal complications.

Methods: Adult female wistar rats were divided into four groups (n = 6/group): intact control (non-diabetic, ND), intact diabetic (D), ovariectomized diabetic (D-OVX) and ovariectomized diabetic which were treated with progesterone (D-OVX + P; 10 mg/kg, s.

The mechanism of cytotoxic effects of hyperglycaemia on the brain has not yet been explained and the proposed hypotheses are not fully convincing. In the present study, we aimed to assess the effect of high doses of glucose on the ultrastructure of the mice brain. The results, which are in agreement with the literature data, show that the administration of a single high dose of glucose, as well as its chronic application, leads to accumulation of glycogen granules in the cytoplasm of astrocytes.
