Background: Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) is a common intervention for managing coronary artery disease, which is often accompanied by postoperative psychological challenges such as anxiety and depression. This systematic review aims to evaluate the benefits of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in reducing anxiety and depression symptoms and improving overall health outcomes in patients' post-coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery.

Methods: A search of Science Direct, PsycINFO, PubMed, Google Scholar, VHL, Cochrane, and Scopus databases was conducted until October 2023.

  • Mixing cement-based materials for optimal workability is a complex and labor-intensive process, which can be streamlined using AI techniques.
  • Experimental tests produced a dataset of 233 samples focused on key workability factors like fluidity and viscosity, using various material inputs including cement and additives.
  • Machine learning models, specifically enhanced versions like PSO-based CatBoost and XGBoost, were developed to predict workability metrics, with additional analysis to understand how each input affects these properties.

  • The World Health Organization (WHO) aims to eliminate schistosomiasis globally by 2030, with chemical control of the Bulinus snail species being a key strategy for reducing transmission on Pemba Island, Tanzania.
  • Conducted malacological surveys among water bodies over three years found that the presence of Bulinus was influenced by environmental factors, with a notable decrease in their presence following niclosamide treatment.
  • The study observed variable infestation levels across different hotspots and identified a pattern where some water bodies saw recurring Bulinus even after initial control measures were applied.

Evidence from animal experiments has shown that chlorinated polyfluoroalkyl ether sulfonic acids (Cl-PFESAs) can induce vision dysfunction in zebrafish. However, environmental epidemiological evidence supporting this hypothesis remains limited. In our case-control study, samples collected from 270 individuals (135 controls and 135 cases) from the Isomers of C8 Health Project data were analyzed for Cl-PFESAs.

Creating a universal and supportive learning environment is essential for the holistic education development of visually impaired school children. However, inadequate infrastructure, limited access to specialized tools, and a shortage of skilled teachers may contribute to lower self-confidence and academic performance. This underscores the necessity for specific guidelines and recommendations to address an optimal classroom setting that is tailored to their visual needs.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigated the effects of posttreatment surveillance intensity on overall survival in men with localized prostate cancer treated by radical prostatectomy or radiation therapy.
  • Data from over 10,000 patients showed no significant differences in overall survival related to the number of PSA tests conducted in the first year after treatment.
  • While higher surveillance intensity didn't improve overall survival, it was linked to more procedures and salvage treatments, particularly showing worse recurrence-free survival in patients who had radical prostatectomy.

Lighting modification is commonly performed by optometrists and occupational therapists to enhance visibility and visual comfort among schoolchildren with low vision. The purpose of this study is to determine the optimal illumination level for visual function and visual comfort of schoolchildren with low vision and the relationship between them. A cross-sectional study was conducted to assess five levels of illumination ranging from 125 lux to 2000 lux to determine the optimal illumination for visual functions and visual comfort in schoolchildren with low vision from a special education school for blind in Malaysia.

Tubulointerstitial fibrosis (TIF) is present with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Vinpocetine (Vinpo) is used for treating cerebrovascular deficits, exhibiting some kidney-beneficial effects; however, its role in TIF is uncertain. So, the aim of this study was to investigate its potential impact on adenine-induced fibrotic CKD and explore the underlying mechanistic aspects.

Background: Anesthesiologists must always perform a preoperative airway examination to identify individuals who will have challenging laryngoscopy. In an effort to identify the most accurate airway predictor, numerous authors have evaluated a number of predictive assays. Thyromental height test (TMHT), a new airway predictor, has recently been demonstrated to have good predictive value in determining difficult airways.

Background: Nonoperative management is an appealing option for purely transosseous thoracolumbar flexion-distraction injuries given the prospects of osseous healing and restoration of the posterior tension band complex. This study seeks to examine differences in outcomes following flexion-distraction injuries after operative and nonoperative management.

Methods: This study reviews all patients at a single Level 1 trauma center from 2004 to 2022 with AO Spine B1 thoracolumbar injuries treated operatively vs nonoperatively.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated the effectiveness of polyethylene bands placed around the supra-adjacent spinous process and spinal lamina in strengthening the unfused segment of the spine and reducing stress at the junction.
  • Cadaveric specimens were tested under eccentric loading conditions to determine the load-to-failure and assess the impact of the band placements on preventing fractures compared to a control group with standard pedicle screw instrumentation.
  • While no statistical significance was found in the overall results, the addition of the polyethylene band to the spinous process did show an increased mean peak load-to-failure compared to the control group.

Background: The Headache Impact Test (HIT-6) is an important patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) in migraine prevention trials.

Objectives: This study aimed to (i) assess the reliability and validity of the Arabic version of HIT-6 in Arabic-speaking patients experiencing migraine, and (ii) evaluate the responsiveness of HIT-6 following migraine preventive therapy.

Methods: In this prospective study, patients with migraine (n = 145) were requested to fill out a headache diary, the Arabic version of HIT-6, and Migraine Disability Assessment Scale (MIDAS) at two time points (baseline and 3 months after initiation of prophylactic treatment).

Children with developmental disabilities have different feeding and swallowing problems. The purposes of the present study were to develop an Arabic version of the FHI-C and to evaluate its validity, consistency, and reliability in Arabic children with developmental disabilities for assessing how feeding and swallowing problems impair the physical, functional, and emotional aspects of children's lives. A prospective study including 113 children [62 children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), 24 with cerebral palsy (CP), 27 with intellectual disability (ID)], in the age range of 2 to 10 years, selected randomly from the swallowing clinic, phoniatrics unit, Otorhinolaryngology department, University hospital between September 2023 and December 2023 complaining of feeding and swallowing problems.
