Pancreatitis is an inflammatory disease of the pancreas that can arise due to various factors, including environmental risks such as diet, alcohol, and smoking, as well as genetic predispositions. In some cases, pancreatitis may progress and become chronic, leading to irreversible damage and impaired pancreatic function. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified polymorphisms at the X-linked locus as risk factors for both sporadic and alcohol-related chronic pancreatitis.

Molecular dynamics analyses of CLDN15 pore size and charge selectivity.

The Claudin-15 (CLDN15) channel is important for nutrient, electrolyte, and water transport in the gastrointestinal tract. We used cell culture studies and molecular dynamics simulations to elucidate its structure and permeability mechanisms. We provide a model that underscores the crucial role of the D55 residue in the CLDN15 selectivity filter, which interacts with permeating cations.

Present and Future Drinking Water Security and Its Impacts on Maternities: A Multi-Scale Assessment of Sudan.

Adequate access to drinking water for hydration and hygiene depends on many factors. We developed the Drinking Water Security Index (DWSI) to assess relative multifactorial drinking water security at different spatial and temporal scales. DWSI is a function of four key indicators of drinking water security: water quality, water accessibility, water continuity, and water availability.

HIV Modes of Transmission in Sudan in 2014.

Background: In Sudan, where studies on HIV dynamics are few, model projections provide an additional source of information for policy-makers to identify data collection priorities and develop prevention programs. In this study, we aimed to estimate the distribution of new HIV infections by mode of exposure and to identify populations who are disproportionately contributing to the total number of new infections in Sudan.

Methods: We applied the modes of transmission (MoT) mathematical model in Sudan to estimate the distribution of new HIV infections among the 15-49 age group for 2014, based on the main routes of exposure to HIV.
