The local binary model is a straightforward, dependable, and effective method for extracting relevant local information from images. However, because it only uses sign information in the local region, the local binary pattern (LBP) is ineffective at capturing discriminating characteristics. Furthermore, most LBP variants select a region with one specific center pixel to fill all neighborhoods.

The human visual perception uses structural information to recognize stereo correspondences in natural scenes. Therefore, structural information is important to build an efficient stereo matching algorithm. In this paper, we demonstrate that incorporating the structural information similarity, extracted either from image intensity () directly or from image gradients (), between two patches can accurately describe the patch structures and, thus, provides more reliable initial cost values.

This paper deals with a new anisotropic discrete dual-tree wavelet transform (ADDTWT) to characterize the anisotropy of bone texture. More specifically, we propose to extend the conventional discrete dual-tree wavelet transform (DDTWT) by using the anisotropic basis functions associated with the hyperbolic wavelet transform instead of isotropic spectrum supports. A texture classification framework is adopted to assess the performance of the proposed transform.
