The African Union Bureau of Heads of State and Government endorsed the COVID-19 Vaccine Development and Access Strategy to vaccinate at least 60% of each country's population with a safe and efficacious vaccine by 2022, to achieve the population-level immunity needed to bring the pandemic under control. Using publicly available, country-level population estimates and COVID-19 vaccination data, we provide unique insights into the uptake trends of COVID-19 vaccinations in the 15 countries that comprise the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS). Based on the vaccination rates in the ECOWAS region after three months of commencing COVID-19 vaccinations, we provide a projection of the trajectory and speed of vaccination needed to achieve a COVID-19 vaccination coverage rate of at least 60% of the total ECOWAS population.

Background: Influenza and other respiratory viruses promote proliferation in the upper respiratory tract. We sought to investigate for what we believe is the first time, the effect of intranasal live attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV) on nasopharyngeal density in a low-income to middle-income country population with high pneumococcal carriage rates.

Methods: In an open-label, randomised, controlled trial in The Gambia, 330 healthy children aged 24-59 months were randomly assigned 2:1 to receive one trivalent LAIV dose at enrolment (day 0, intervention) or at the end of active follow-up (day 21, control).

Varicocele has been raised as a contributor to male infertility supported by the improvement of sperm parameters after varicocelectomy. Cystatin C (Cys C) has been linked to several cellular changes that are common in male infertility cases associated with varicocele such as apoptosis and autophagy. This preliminary study aimed to assess the seminal levels of Cys C in infertile oligoasthenoteratozoospermic (OAT) men associated with varicocele that have been shown to have spermatic vein vasodilation and active death pathway.

Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) have been widely used to determine future demand for power in the short, medium, and long terms. However, research has identified that ANNs could cause inaccurate predictions of load when used for long-term forecasting. This inaccuracy is attributed to insufficient training data and increased accumulated errors, especially in long-term estimations.
