Introduction: Spontaneous pneumothorax is a life-threatening thoracic condition that could be either primary spontaneous pneumothorax (PSP) in the absence of an underlying lung disease or secondary spontaneous pneumothorax (SSP) in the presence of an underlying lung disease. In the case of recurrent, contralateral spontaneous pneumothorax or persistent air leak with a chest drain, surgery with bullectomy associated with pleurectomy or pleurodesis is the gold standard management.

Aim: To compare two different techniques for bullectomy, either by using staplers or by hand sewing.

Background: Having good exposure to the mitral apparatus during mitral valve replacement is a vital decision every cardiac surgeon must take. This study was conducted to compare the simple transseptal approach and the conventional left atrial approach for mitral valve procedures, to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the simple transseptal approach during open heart mitral valve procedures, as the conventional left atrial approach may not provide optimal exposure, especially in unfavorable anatomical and operative situations.

Methods: This is a retrospective study.

Background: Despite advancements in surgical technique, myocardial shield, and postoperative care, Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) among patients with reduced ejection fraction (EF) remains a surgical challenge due to their greater postoperative morbidity and mortality. This study aims to determine the early outcome of patients with reduced LVEF undergoing CABG and the improvement in the ejection fraction after revascularization.

Methods: A total of 62 patients with impaired Left Ventricular (LV) systolic function (LVEF = 35-40 %) who underwent isolated On-pump CABG at the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery in Assiut University Hospitals and who had met the listed inclusion and exclusion criteria were eligible for the study.

Background: Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a chronic condition following inciting events such as fractures or surgeries with sensorimotor and autonomic manifestations and poor prognosis. This review aimed to provide conclusive evidence about the sensory phenotype of CRPS based on quantitative sensory testing (QST) to understand the underlying pain mechanisms and guide treatment strategies.

Databases: Eight databases were searched based on a previously published protocol.

Background And Aim: Lung Cancer (LC) is a major cancer killer worldwide, and 5-yr survival is extremely poor (≤15%), accentuating the need for more effective diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. Studies have shown cell-free microRNAs (miRNAs) circulating in the serum and plasma with specific expression in cancer, indicating the potential of using miRNAs as biomarkers for cancer diagnosis and therapy. This study aimed to identify differentially-expressed two miRNAs in the plasma of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) patients that might be a clinically useful tool for lung cancer early detection.

Despite advances in the management of cardiovascular diseases, acute coronary syndrome (ACS) remains the leading cause of death worldwide. ACS is associated with an imbalance between coronary blood supply and metabolic requirements. Lipid peroxidation and production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) damage the cardiac cell membrane.

Background: Magnesium is one of the effective, safe local anesthetic adjuvants that can exert an analgesic effect in conditions presenting acute and chronic post-sternotomy pain. We studied the efficacy of continuous infusion of presternal magnesium sulfate with bupivacaine for pain relief following cardiac surgery.

Methods: Ninety adult patients undergoing valve replacement cardiac surgery randomly allocated into three groups.

Background: Optical coherence tomography (OCT) has been proven useful in measuring retinal thickness and volumes in patients with diabetes.

Objective: To test whether OCT is able to identify early retinal changes and its potential correlations with metabolic parameters and other microvascular complications.

Patients And Methods: Thirty patients with type 1 diabetes without minimal diabetic retinopathy (MDR) (17 males, 13 females, aged 14.
