Stroke is a major health issue, being the third leading cause of death and a primary cause of disability in adults, particularly due to inflammation that worsens brain damage in survivors.
A study analyzed 44 patients with acute ischemic stroke within 48 hours, measuring their serum IL-8 levels alongside assessing their disability using established scales like NIHSS and mRS.
Results indicated that higher IL-8 levels are significantly associated with increased severity of disability, suggesting that monitoring IL-8 could help evaluate and potentially manage post-stroke recovery.
