Factors associated with immediate postoperative pulmonary complications after Appendectomies under general anesthesia: A retrospective analysis.

Background: Postoperative pulmonary complications (PPC) include any complication that affects the respiratory system after anesthesia and surgery and are a significant cause of postoperative mortality and morbidity.

Objectives: To describe the risk factors for immediate postoperative pulmonary complications after appendectomy under general anesthesia and to determine if rapid sequence induction decreases the risk.

Design And Setting: A retrospective analysis of perioperative medical records of patients who underwent appendectomy under general anesthesia over a year, from January 1st, 2014, to December 31st, 2014, at Hamad General Hospital, Doha, Qatar, was done.

Meat grinder injury of the arm: how to extract an arm safe, fast and pain free: case report and literature review.

Among the work-related injuries, meat grinder injuries are not uncommon. One of the major challenges in the trauma resuscitation room is the appropriate choice of anesthesia/analgesia when the patient is still conscious and the second challenge is to find the best way to early extract the patient's limb out of the machine without adding more suffering. Herein, we presented a 23-year-old male patient who was brought fully conscious in a kneeling position with the right forearm entrapped in a big meat grinder machine with part of the crushed fingers being extruded out of the machine.

The Effect of Different Doses of Intravenous Dexmedetomidine on the Properties of Subarachnoid Blockade: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Background: Dexmedetomidine is a sedative and analgesic medication which has gained an increased usage as an adjuvant to both general and regional anaesthesia in recent years. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we examined the changes to the characteristics of subarachnoid block when accompanied with intravenous dexmedetomidine. Our aim is to evaluate the effects of different doses of intravenous dexmedetomidine on the sensory and motor blockade duration of a single shot spinal anaesthetic and the incidence of any associated side effects.

A 3rd ventricular colloid cyst causing acute hydrocephalus with stunned myocardium: A case report.

Background: Third ventricular colloid cysts are benign but may cause acute hydrocephalus, raised intracranial pressure, decreased consciousness level, and sudden death. These ventricular colloid cysts associated with stunned myocardium are rarely reported in the literature. This study reported a case of a third ventricular colloid cyst presented as acute hydrocephalus complicated with severe neurogenic pulmonary edema, stunned myocardium, and heart failure, which survived at the end.
