Objectives: Inhabitants of developing countries such as those in North Africa have experienced lifestyle changes that have increased the risk of cardiovascular disease. The aim of the Epidemiological Trial of Hypertension in North Africa (ETHNA) was to evaluate the prevalence and clinical profile of hypertension in a large sample of individuals in North Africa.
Methods: This was an international, multicentre, epidemiological, cross-sectional study conducted in patients consulting primary care physicians in Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco.
We present the case of an 18-year-old male patient with Behçet's disease who presented with dyspnoea, fever and haemoptysis. A diagnosis of right ventricular thrombosis associated with endomyocardial fibrosis, a pulmonary artery aneurysm, and cerebral vein thrombosis was made. Considering the absence of haemodynamic compromise and the risk of recurrence after surgical treatment for cardiac thrombus, we preferred medical management, which consisted of immunosuppression and anticoagulation.
