A fundamental question that often occurs in statistical tests is the normality of distributions. Countless distributions exist in science and life, but one distribution that is obtained via permutations, usually referred to as permutation distribution, is interesting. Although a permutation distribution should behave in accord with the central limit theorem, if both the independence condition and the identical distribution condition are fulfilled, no studies have corroborated this concurrence in functional magnetic resonance imaging data.

Objective: We sought to assess the value of somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEPs) in predicting motor recovery of the upper limb and to determine whether any of the SSEPs components can predict the severity of the deficit so that it can document the size of the stroke (lacunar or large-vessel stroke).

Due to the importance of the matched filter in the automated detection of blood vessels in digital retinal images, improving its response is highly desirable. This filter may vary in many ways depending on the parameters that govern its response. In this paper, new parameters to optimize the sensitivity of the matched filter are found using genetic algorithms on the test set of the DRIVE databases.

The matched filter has been widely used in the detection of blood vessels of the human retina digital image. In this paper, the matched filter response to the detection of blood vessels is increased by proposing better filter parameters. These filter parameters are found by using an optimization procedure on 20 retina images of the DRIVE database.
