Clinical pharmacists' interventions for preventing adverse events in critically ill neonates in Qatar: an economic impact analysis.

Objective: This study aimed to assess the overall economic impact of clinical pharmacist interventions in the neonatal ICU (NICU) in Qatar.

Methods: A retrospective review of neonates' records was performed over a 3-month duration in the NICU of Qatar to determine the total economic benefit of clinical pharmacist interventions. The total benefit of interventions was calculated by considering the cost avoidance due to preventable adverse drug events (ADEs) and the cost savings associated with the revised resource use due to interventions.

Lactoferrin: A Promising New Player in Treatment of Iron Deficiency Anemia in Patients on Regular Hemodialysis: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Therefore, we aimed to assess the occurrence of IgH gene rearrangement in Egyptian chronic HCV patients and studying the effect of oral direct-acting antiviral (DAAs) therapy on regression of the clonality markers.

Establishment of reference intervals for hematological parameters of adult population in the western region of Saudi Arabia.

Background: Most of hematology laboratories in Saudi Arabia utilize the reference intervals (RIs) provided by instrument manufacturers. This study aimed to define RIs of hematological parameters for adult population in the western region of Saudi Arabia and to explore their specific features from an international perspective.

Surfactant therapy for meconium aspiration syndrome in neonates: a systematic overview of systematic reviews and recent clinical trials.

To conduct a systematic overview of systematic reviews (SRs) and randomized clinical trials (RCTs) on surfactant therapy in neonatal meconium aspiration syndrome. We searched EMBASE, PROQUEST and PubMed to summarize the different effects of surfactant lung lavage and bolus surfactant therapies in neonates with meconium aspiration syndrome. With a total of 1377 patients, three SRs and two RCTs were included in analysis.

Synthesis and Anticancer Activity of New ((Furan-2-yl)-1,3,4-thiadiazolyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole Acyclic Sugar Derivatives.

New sugar hydrazones incorporating furan and/or 1,3,4-thiadiazole ring systems were synthesized by reaction of the corresponding hydrazide with different aldose sugars. Heterocyclization of the formed hydrazones afforded the derived acyclic nucleoside analogues possessing the 1,3,4-oxadiazoline as modified nucleobase via acetylation followed by the heterocyclization process. The anticancer activity of the synthesized compounds was studied against human liver carcinoma cell (HepG-2) and at human normal retina pigmented epithelium cells (RPE-1).

This study evaluated a total of 122 patients with CML treated with imatinib between 2001 and 2012. Survival, hematologic, cytogenetic and molecular responses and adverse events were assessed.

Synthesis and anti-hepatitis B activity of new substituted uracil and thiouracil glycosides.

A number of N- and S-substituted uracil and thiouracil glycosides were synthesized by coupling reaction of 5,6-dibenzyle pyrimidine derivatives with the corresponding acetobromosugar. The synthesized compounds were tested for their antiviral activity against hepatitis B virus. Plaque reduction infectivity assay was used to determine virus count reduction as a result of treatment with tested compounds which showed moderate to high antiviral activities.

Materials And Methods: This study included 1,012 women recruited from gynecology outpatient clinic screened for premalignant or malignant lesions of the cervix. All women underwent cervical smear test, direct visual inspection of the cervix after painting with acetic acid (DVI-A) and after painting with Lugol iodine (DVI-LI).

Sugar N-arylaminoacetylhydrazones 2-5 were prepared by the reaction of N-arylaminoacetylhydrazides 1 with equivalent amounts of the corresponding monosaccharides. Per-O-acetyl derivatives 6-9 of sugar hydrazones 2-5 were prepared by using acetic anhydride in pyridine at room temperature, while on boiling with acetic anhydride, cyclization had taken place to give the oxadiazolines 10-12. The prepared compounds were tested for antiviral activity against Herpes Simplex virus type-1 (HSV-1) and hepatitis-A virus (HAV, MBB-cell culture adapted strain).
