Designing and modeling of complex DNA vaccine based on tropomyosin protein of Boophilus genus tick.

Boophilus tick is a bloodsucking ectoparasite that transfers some pathogens, reducing production and thus leading to economical losses in the cattle industry. Tropomyosin (TPM) protein is a salivary protein, has actin regulator activity, and plays an important role in immune reactions against parasites. In the current study, besides developing a safe, effective, and broad spectrum protective measure against Boophilus genus tick based on TPM protein, we attempted to minimize possible problems occurring in the design of polytopic vaccines.

Effects of propofol versus isoflurane on liver function after open thoracotomy.

Background: Anesthetic agents and type of surgery may contribute to postoperative hepatic injury. Inhalational anesthetics have been associated with hepatic dysfunction after surgery, however, propofol is expected to have a lower potential for postoperative liver injury. This prospective double-blind randomized clinical study was planned to determine whether postoperative liver function differs after anesthesia with isoflurane and total intravenous anesthesia with propofol in patients undergoing a posterolateral thoracotomy.

One-dimensional finite-elements method for the analysis of whispering gallery microresonators.

Multidrug resistance among Acinetobacter baumannii isolates from Iran: changes in antimicrobial susceptibility patterns and genotypic profile.

Background And Aim: Widespread multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (MDR-AB) strains have limited therapeutic options for treating intensive care unit (ICU) patients with MDR-AB infection in Iran. We aimed to evaluate MDR-AB diversity and antimicrobial susceptibility in Tehran (Iran) to address the need for feasible and effective control approaches against severe MDR-AB infections.

Effect of feeding olive-pulp ensiled with additives on feedlot performance and carcass attributes of fat-tailed lambs.

Feed cost has a significant effect on the economic efficiency of feedlot lambs; therefore, the use of low-cost non-conventional feedstuffs, such as olive pulp (OP), has the potential to decrease the production costs. Because optimum inclusion of OP-treated silages has not been determined in feedlot lambs, an experiment was conducted to determine the effect of inclusion of OP ensiled with additives in the diet on the feedlot performance and carcass attributes of feedlot lambs. Ram lambs of Mehraban and Ghezel breeds (n = 50 lambs per breed) were randomly allotted to 10 groups and fed with one of the nine diets containing OP silage or a control diet.

Hydrogels are currently used as interesting constructs for the delivery of proteins. In this study, a novel polyvinyl alcohol-dextran (PVA-Dex) blend hydrogel was used for controlled delivery of basic-fibroblast growth factor (bFGF). These biocompatible constructs were sutured to the epicardium as patches on the heart surface to provide slow release of bFGF to the infarcted site in an ovine model of myocardial infarction (MI).

Therapeutic effects of calcium & vitamin D supplementation in women with PCOS.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of calcium & vitamin D supplementation in infertile women suffering from polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and to assess levels of 25-hydroxy vitamin D in these patients.

Methods: In a case control study, 100 infertile PCOS women based on a randomly divided into two groups. Group I (n = 50) were treated with metformin 1500 mg/day, and group II (n = 50) treated with metformin 1500 mg/day plus Calcium 1000 mg/day and Vitamin D 100000 IU/month for 6 months.

Probiotics as an alternative strategy for prevention and treatment of human diseases: a review.

Probiotics are live microbial food supplements or their components, which have been shown to have beneficial effects on human health. Probiotics can be bacteria, molds, or yeasts, but most of them fall into the group known as lactic acid bacteria and are normally consumed in the form of yogurt, fermented milk, or other fermented foods. Data from clinical trials have shown contrasting effects and should be interpreted with caution.

Molecular genotyping and epidemiology of Mycobacterium bovis strains obtained from cattle in Iran.

Restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) genotyping was employed to analyze the population genetics of Mycobacterium bovis in Iran. One hundred and twenty-three isolates collected from slaughtered tuberculosis-suspect cattle and one clinically asymptomatic buffalo were subjected to RFLP analysis with probes of the polymorphic GC-rich sequence (PGRS) and the direct repeat sequence (DR) using DNA digested with PvuII and AluI. All these methods detected a large homogeneous population in which only a few isolates had variant genotypes.

A review of the contemporary knowledge of bovine tuberculosis and government policy in Iran.

In 1931 Carpantier reported bovine TB (BTB) in Iranian cattle. Incidence of fever and bacteriemia following flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopy: a prospective study.

Our aim was to determine the incidence of bacteriemia and fever following FB in our experience and compare with those which have been mentioned in AHA guideline as well as other studies. Venous blood of 85 consecutive patients was evaluated for both aerobic and anaerobic cultures before (for detecting possible previous bacteriemia) and after FB.

Peritonitis after gastrostomy tube replacement: a case series and review of literature.
