Article Synopsis
  • Higher rates of cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) implantations are linked to increased lead failures and the need for transvenous lead extractions (TLE), prompting this study to evaluate TLE admissions and safety outcomes from 2016 to 2019.* -
  • The study analyzed 30,128 TLE hospitalizations, finding a 3.21% in-hospital mortality rate, with factors like age and existing health conditions raising mortality; those with a history of sternotomy fared better than those without.* -
  • Despite a low overall mortality rate, female patients experienced more cardiac tamponade but had shorter hospital stays and lower costs, with no significant gender difference in mortality rates.*

Hypertriglyceridemia is believed to be independently associated with an elevated risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) events. Lifestyle changes and dietary modifications are recommended for individuals with high serum triglyceride (TG) levels (150-499 mg/dl), and pharmacological therapy in addition to lifestyle modification is recommended when serum TG levels ≥ 500 mg/dl. A residual cardiovascular risk remains even in statin appropriate treated patients with CVD risk factors, and in this patient population, hypertriglyceridemia poses an independent and increased risk of ischemic events.

Background: Endovascular stent graft (EVG) repair can be a safe alternative to open surgical repair to treat abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) in high-risk patients. We report our results with EVG repair in such high-risk patients at our institution.

Objectives: We wanted to show that EVG repair can be performed successfully and with a low complication rate in patients with serious comorbidities.

Objective: Low frequency electrical impulses (EIs) reduce new atherosclerotic plaque formation in previously diseased arteries and may reverse the extent of previous pathologic damage in these structures.

Methods: A pacemaker was implanted on the left side of rabbit abdominal aortas, and an electrode was placed close to the other side of the aorta in the psoas major muscle. For the induction of atherosclerosis, the rabbits were placed on a high cholesterol diet (HCD) for 11 weeks.
