Jordanian Arabic Version of the Dizziness Handicap Inventory.

Objective: This study aimed to establish and validate a Jordanian Arabic version of the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI-JA) equivalent to the original DHI in English (DHI-E).

Methods: The THI-E questionnaires were translated into formal Jordanian Arabic by two bilingual volunteer audiologists. The final version, curated by the author, was administered to 20 participants with normal balance and 64 patients experiencing dizziness at the Middle East Hearing and Balance Centre.

An interesting twist: 90 year-old female with acute small bowel obstruction due to midgut volvulus.

We report an exceptionally rare presentation of midgut volvulus secondary to malrotation in a nonagenarian female. According to our extensive literature review, this 90-year-old female is the oldest reported case of midgut volvulus. This patient presented with acute recurrent emesis.

The glymphatic system for neurosurgeons: a scoping review.

The discovery of the glymphatic system has revolutionized our understanding of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) circulation and interstitial waste clearance in the brain. This scoping review aims to synthesize the current literature on the glymphatic system's role in neurosurgical conditions and its potential as a therapeutic target. We conducted a comprehensive search in PubMed and Scopus databases for studies published between January 1, 2012, and October 31, 2023.

Incidence, management, and outcome of incidental meningioma: what has happened in 10 years?

Purpose: The aim of this study was to study the use of brain scanning, and the subsequent findings of presumed incidental meningioma in two time periods, and to study differences in follow-up, treatment, and outcome.

Methods: Records of all performed CT and MRI of the brain during two time periods were retrospectively reviewed in search of patients with presumed incidental meningioma. These patients were further analyzed using medical health records, with the purpose to study clinical handling and outcome during a 3 year follow up.

Midgut Volvulus on an Octogenarian Male: A Case Report.

Midgut volvulus is a rare incidence in adults, especially in octogenarians. More unlikely is to find a midgut volvulus without necrosis or the need to do bowel resection when the volvulus is found within an internal hernia due to a mesenteric defect. No case has been reported with our unusual presentation, making it a rare and challenging discovery.

Low-grade intestinal inflammation two decades after pelvic radiotherapy.

Background: Radiotherapy is effective in the treatment of cancer but also causes damage to non-cancerous tissue. Pelvic radiotherapy may produce chronic and debilitating bowel symptoms, yet the underlying pathophysiology is still undefined. Most notably, although pelvic radiotherapy causes an acute intestinal inflammation there is no consensus on whether the late-phase pathophysiology contains an inflammatory component or not.

Numerous advantages result from integrating AI into healthcare systems, including improved patient care, lower rates of medical errors, better treatment recommendations, and more accurate diagnosis of diseases.

Colonoscopy is a widely used method of screening, diagnosis and intervention. Complications are infrequent and generally present as colonic perforation or colonic hemorrhage. A rare and life-threatening complication of colonoscopy is splenic injury or rupture.

Tinnitus Prevalence and Associated Factors among Dental Clinicians in the United Arab Emirates.

Dental clinicians are at increased risk for developing tinnitus due to exposure to high levels of occupational noise. This study aimed to determine tinnitus prevalence and associated factors among dental clinicians. Interviews were conducted with 150 randomly selected dental clinicians using a questionnaire.

Simultaneous Sigmoid Volvulus and Small Bowel Obstruction: A Case Report.

Sigmoid volvulus and small bowel obstruction are typically thought to be separate clinical pathologies with distinct clinical features, diagnostic criteria, and treatment strategies. We present a rare case of simultaneous sigmoid volvulus and small bowel obstruction. To our knowledge, this is the first such case in literature and presented a unique set of challenges in regard to treatment and management.

Low fat diet versus low carbohydrate diet for management of non-alcohol fatty liver disease: A systematic review.

Although there is a consensus on beneficial effects of a low calorie diet in management of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, the optimal composition of diet has not yet been elucidated. The aim of this review is to summarize the results of current randomized controlled trials evaluating the effects of low fat diet (LFD) vs. low carbohydrate diet (LCD) on NAFLD.

Social impact and social performance of paddy rice production in Iran and Malaysia.

Purpose: Sustainable agri-food production is incredibly important for society. Despite Iran and Malaysia being one of the highest production countries for paddy rice, there is no study on the social life cycle assessment (S-LCA) for rice production for both countries in the literature. The lack of data and complexity of social issue are the challenges of conducting the S-LCA study.

The effect of androstenedione supplementation on testosterone, estradiol, body composition, and lipid profile: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Objective: To date, no meta-analysis has been carried out to collect evidence from randomized placebo-controlled trials (RCTs) for the purpose of comprehensively summarizing the effect of androstenedione supplementation. Therefore, the aim of this research was to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of all RCTs that explored the effect of androstenedione supplementation on individual hormonal, lipid, and anthropometric indices.

Methods: We searched five databases (Web of Science, SCOPUS, Embase, PubMed/MEDLINE, and Google Scholar) using a combination of medical subject headings (MeSH) and non-MeSH terms.

Background And Aim: The effect of transdermal 17β-estradiol and norethisterone acetate co-administration on the lipid profile in postmenopausal women remains controversial as randomized controlled trials (RCTs) conducted to investigate this research question have produced conflicting results. Consequently, to clarify this issue, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of RCTs that evaluated the impact of transdermal 17β-estradiol combined with norethisterone acetate treatment on the concentrations of serum lipids in postmenopausal women.

Methods: Relevant articles published before February 1st, 2022 were identified by searching the PubMed/Medline, Scopus, and Embase, and Web of Science electronic databases.

Independent Risk Factors for Thromboembolic Events in High-Risk Patients With Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy.

Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TCM) is characteristically associated with left ventricular apical ballooning and regional wall motion abnormalities that predispose to the formation of left ventricular (LV) thrombi and subsequent thromboembolic events (VTE). There is limited data about the risk factors of developing stroke in the absence of LV thrombi in patients with TCM. Identify risk factors that predispose patients with TCM to develop VTE and stroke.

Acquired Hemophilia A Post-COVID-19 Vaccination: A Case Report and Review.

Acquired hemophilia A (AHA) is an inhibitory coagulopathy that represents a rare variant of hemorrhagic syndromes. We present a case of idiopathic AHA in a 75-year-old male patient with a cutaneous hematoma that could be attributed to a recent COVID-19 vaccination. The aim of this report is to raise awareness of a possible association between AHA and COVID-19 vaccination and to review similar reported cases and management plans to prevent the development of possible morbidity and debilitating complications.

BRAF V600E mutation in papillary thyroid carcinoma: it's relation to clinical features and oncologic outcomes in a single cancer centre experience.

Purpose: This study focuses on the oncologic influence of BRAF V600E mutations in a cohort of Middle Eastern papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) patients treated at a single centre. We tested the association of BRAF V600E mutation with papillary thyroid carcinoma at King Hussein Cancer Center.

Methods: Patients with histologically confirmed PTC who underwent surgical treatment between 2006 and 2015 were included in this study.

Unusual Chemotherapeutic Resistant Testicular Embryonal Germ Cell Tumor with Widespread Metastasis in a Case of Klinefelter Syndrome: A Case Report.

Cryptorchidism is an undeniable risk factor for testicular germ cell tumors (TGCTs) and is also commonly associated with Klinefelter syndrome (KS) patients. Embryonal cell carcinoma usually shows strong expression of CD30 and OCT3/4, with patchy staining of PLAP1. Most patients with nonseminomatous GCTs (NSGCTs) can achieve total remission with proactive chemotherapy, and most can be cured.

Failure of 3 different methods and biopsy sites to diagnose a patient with invasive colorectal cancer: A case report.

Rationale: Colorectal cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers worldwide, and the majority arise from neoplastic adenomatous polyps. Bladder involvement in colorectal cancer is uncommon and found in approximately 3% of the cases, most commonly in sigmoid and rectal tumors and the diagnosis is classically based on biopsies of affected tissues.

Patient Concerns: A 68-year-old male with no significant past medical history underwent diagnostic colonoscopy for abdominal distension and constipation with positive fecal occult blood test ordered by the primary care physician.

An innovative procedure for NORM scales treatment and radionuclides separation.

The present study focuses on the development of a new chemical treatment method for naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM) scale wastes from the oil industry. The method consists of three-stages, including the separation of oil using the Fenton oxidation process at room temperature, the complete dissolution of soluble and slightly soluble salts and separation of Ra and Pb isotopes. The proposed method can be considered as an innovative procedure for NORM scales treatment and radionuclides separation, which in turn support the radioactive waste management with economic benefits.

Breast Cancer Suspicion in a Transgender Male-to-Female Patient on Hormone Replacement Therapy Presenting with Right Breast Mass: Breast Cancer Risk Assessment and Presentation of a Rare Lesion.

There has been an increasing use of hormonal therapy among male-to-female (MtF) transgender individuals. This long-term hormone replacement therapy (HRT) renders MtF individuals a unique patient subgroup in terms of breast cancer risk. This case describes a MtF transgender who presented with a breast lesion concerning for malignancy following hormonal replacement therapy.

Chemical fractionation of radium-226 in NORM contaminated soil from oilfields.

Contamination of soil with Ra is a common problem in the oilfields, leading to costly remediation and disposal programmes. The present study focuses on the chemical fractionation and mobility of Ra in contaminated soils collected from an oilfield using a three-step sequential extraction procedure (BCR). The total activity concentrations of Ra in contaminated soils were measured and found to be in the range from 1030 ± 90 to 7780 ± 530 Bq kg, with a mean activity concentration of 2840 ± 1840 Bq kg.

Prevalence and risk factors of hearing loss among infants in Jordan: initial results from universal neonatal screening.

Objective: To determine the association of reported risk factors with hearing loss, and explore the possible contribution of other risk factors that may improve identifying Jordanian children for whom interventions should be provided.

Design: A cross-sectional study was performed in 37 hospitals and mother-child clinics from different health sectors in Jordan. The hearing screening protocol was performed in three stages.

Promoting Arab and Israeli cooperation: peacebuilding through health initiatives.

This article describes a positive experience in building Arab and Israeli cooperation through health initiatives. Over the past 10 years Israeli, Jordanian, and Palestinian health professionals have worked together through the Canada International Scientific Exchange Program (CISEPO). In the initial project, nearly 17,000 Arab and Israeli newborn babies were tested for early detection of hearing loss, an important health issue for the region.
