Background: Trace elements are the important components that play a crucial role in various functions of the human body at cellular and molecular levels. Considering the role of the trace elements in precancerous and cancerous conditions, estimation of their levels in these conditions could aid in understanding the disease process and progression. The purpose of this study is to determine the alteration in salivary electrolyte concentration of oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMD) and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) patients to correlate the variations with the severity and biological behaviour.

The circadian system plays a crucial role in regulating metabolic homeostasis at both systemic and tissue levels by synchronizing the central and peripheral clocks with exogenous time cues, known as zeitgebers (such as the light/dark cycle). Our body's behavioral rhythms, including sleep-wake cycles and feeding-fasting patterns, align with these extrinsic time cues. The body cannot effectively rest and repair itself when circadian rhythms are frequently disrupted.

Article Synopsis
  • Advanced Glycation End-products (AGEs) are chemical compounds formed when sugars mix with proteins, and they can stay in the body for a long time.
  • Research shows that breaking down AGEs could help heart failure patients and monitor how well treatments work.
  • AGEs can cause problems in the body that lead to chronic diseases, so scientists are studying them to find ways to lower their levels and improve health.

Background: Salivary gland-type lung carcinomas are uncommon neoplasms of the lung, representing less than 1% of all lung tumors. The two most common among them are adenoid cystic carcinoma and mucoepidermoid carcinoma. Although they usually have an indolent behavior, adenoid cystic carcinomas can be more aggressive, with 5-year survival as low as 55%.

Adipose tissue is considered to be an endocrine organ that secretes bioactive substances known as adipokines that contribute to the pathophysiology of metabolic and coronary diseases related to obesity. In this study, various novel biomarkers, such as inflammatory markers that are pro-inflammatory (visfatin) and anti-inflammatory (omentin-1), as prognostic indicators for people with coronary artery disease (CAD) were investigated. In this study, 30 diabetic patients with CAD, 30 diabetic patients without CAD, and 30 healthy control counterparts were included.

Background: Owing to the heterogeneous nature of prostate cancer (PCa) and errors in the characterization of the disease, researchers have been trying to unveil molecular biomarkers like microRNA (miRNA) as diagnostic markers. The purpose of our study is to demonstrate the precision of a panel of miRNAs as biomarkers with diagnostic potential for risk stratification.

Materials And Methods: The present study demonstrates the comparative expression profiles of miRNA-141,-1290,-100, and -335 in both tissue and serum, including Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH) and PCa, with healthy volunteers.

Lead is a highly toxic element which can cross the placental barrier and enter the fetus during pregnancy. Parental lead exposure has adverse effect on infant as well as on maternal health. As part of our program to investigate the lead poisoning in human population we investigated the maternal blood lead levels (MBLL) and umbilical cord blood lead (UBLL) levels in 200 pregnant women and collected their socio-demographic details.

During thermal radiation treatments, heat therapies, and examination procedures like scans and X-rays, the cylindrical blood vessels may get stretched; meanwhile, the blood flow through those blood vessels may get affected due to temperature variations around them. To overcome this issue, this work was framed to explore the impact of heat transmission in a Carreau fluid flow (CFF) through a stretching cylinder in terms of the nonlinear stretching rate and irregular heat source/sink. Temperature-dependent thermal conductivity and thermal radiation are taken into consideration in this study.

Introduction: Childhood and adolescence require adequate amount of micronutrients for normal growth and development. The primary objective of study was to assess the prevalence of deficiencies of Vitamins (Vitamin A, 25 Hydroxy Vitamin D, Vitamin B12 and Folate) and minerals (Calcium, Zinc, Selenium and Iron), among urban school going children aged 6-11 and 12-16 years in ten cities of India. Secondary objective was to find the association between micronutrient deficiencies with sociodemographic and anthropometric indicators.

Background: The aim was to study the association of serum total calcium, ionic calcium, and magnesium with increases in macular thickness parameters and photoreceptor ellipsoid zone (EZ) disruption in diabetic macular edema (DME).

Methods: This study is a tertiary care center based observational cross-sectional study with sixty-six consecutive cases, divided into 3 groups of 22 cases each with no diabetic retinopathy (No DR), non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR), and proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) and a control group of 22 healthy controls. Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was measured on logMAR scale.

The present study was aimed to assess the correlation between transplacental transfer of xenobiotics and resulting biochemical alterations (including genotoxicity and oxidative stress) in non-occupational pregnant women of North India along with the effect on pregnancy outcomes. Maternal and cord blood samples were collected from 221 healthy mother-infant couples and divided according to their gestational age and birth weight. Genotoxic effects in mother and cord blood were examined using comet assay.

Background: End-stage renal disease (ESRD) is one of the leading non-communicable diseases worldwide which at the same time costs immense amount of both financial and human resources. The number of ESRD patients continues to grow, and the need to provide different modalities of renal replacement therapy (RRT) increases.

Materials And Methods: We conducted a retrospective study on the incidence and prevalence of RRT in the Middle East (ME) and the treatment modality, and correlated the findings with the economic status.

Introduction: Telomerase is a ribonucleoprotein complex responsible for de novo telomere synthesis and addition of telomeric repeats to existing telomeres. Telomerase activity is generally found to be absent in normal tissues. Telomerase is known to be induced upon malignant transformation of human cells.

Background: Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) are considered as a pro inflammatory and interleukin-10 (IL-10) anti inflammatory have been shown to predict the risk of incident of coronary artery disease (CAD). The polymorphism at promoter of TNF-α and IL-10 has been shown to increase transcriptional activity of the gene and play a important role in patho physiology of CAD. Aim of present study is to examine the impact of the TNF-α and IL-10 variant allele on various markers of the CAD and to study its relation with circulating TNF-α and IL-10 levels.

This study was undertaken to uncover the regulatory role of lycopene in targeting lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced oxidative stress and inflammatory cascades and subsequent regulation of proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type-9 (PCSK-9) expression via sterol regulatory element binding protein-2 (SREBP-2) and hepatocyte nuclear factor-1α (HNF-1α). Further, protein-protein interaction (PPI) studies for Lycopene-Apo-CIII complex against lipoprotein lipase (LPL) were also performed to assess its regulatory role behind the enhanced circulatory TG/TRLs clearance. Lycopene treatment down-regulated hepatocyte PCSK-9 expression via down-regulation of HNF-1α, whereas, LDL-receptor (LDL-R) was up-regulated by subsequent up-regulation of SREBP-2.
