Article Synopsis
  • * This study explores the use of copper nanoparticles coated with Ocimum Basilicum to potentially enhance chemoradiotherapy treatments for colon carcinoma, aiming for better efficacy with fewer side effects.
  • * Experimental results show that treatments with OB-coated CuNPs reduce cancer cell viability and alter the expression of apoptosis-related genes, suggesting promising new therapeutic options for colorectal carcinoma.

Current methods of colon cancer treatment, especially chemotherapy, require new treatment methods due to adverse side effects. One important area of interest in recent years is the use of nanoparticles as drug delivery vehicles since several studies have revealed that they can improve the target specificity of the treatment thus lowering the dosage of the drugs while preserving the effectiveness of the treatment thus reducing the side effects. The use of traditional medicine has also been a favorite topic of interest in recent years in medical research, especially cancer research.

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are a group of noncoding cellular RNAs involved in significant biological phenomena such as differentiation, cell development, genomic imprinting, adjusting the enzymatic activity, regulating chromosome conformation, apoptosis, cell cycle, and cellular senescence. The misregulation of lncRNAs interrupting normal biological processes has been implicated in tumor formation and metastasis, resulting in cancer. Apoptosis and cell cycle, two main biological phenomena, are highly conserved and intimately coupled mechanisms.
