Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to identify factors associated with keratoconus (KCN) in an Iranian population by comparing 100 KCN patients to 200 age- and sex-matched controls.
  • - Key findings indicated that severe eye rubbing, a family history of KCN, vernal keratoconjunctivitis, and parental consanguinity were significant risk factors, while higher socioeconomic status and education levels were linked to a lower incidence of KCN.
  • - The results suggest that familial and environmental factors, along with certain systemic diseases, play a critical role in the prevalence of KCN among the population studied.
