Background And Aims: Varicocele is one of the most common causes of male infertility in which testicular function is progressively damaged. This study aims to investigate the effect of varicocelectomy and mast cell stabilizers on reducing sperm DNA fragmentation in infertile patients with varicocele.

Methods: In this randomized clinical trial, after obtaining ethical approval and informed consent, infertile patients with varicocele were randomly assigned to three groups: varicocelectomy, 1 mg ketotifen, and varicocelectomy plus with 1 mg ketotifen for 3-month follow-up.

Article Synopsis
  • - A laparoscopic operation utilizing a nephroscope can effectively relieve hepaticojejunostomy stricture (HJS) through a procedure called transjejunal dilatation.
  • - This method is considered minimally invasive, meaning it involves less risk and recovery time compared to traditional surgery.
  • - It is recommended as a preliminary approach for patients experiencing this specific type of stricture.

Aims: Regeneration of discarded human kidneys has been considered as an ideal approach to overcome organ shortage for the end-stage renal diseases (ESRDs). The aim of this study was to develop an effective method for preparation of kidney scaffolds that retain the matrix structure required for proliferation and importantly, differentiation of human adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hAd-MSCs) into renal cells.

Main Methods: We first compared two different methods using triton X-100 and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) for human kidney decellularization; followed by characterization of the prepared human renal extracellular matrix (ECM) scaffolds.

The aim of this study was to acquire an effective method for preparation of rat decellularized kidney scaffolds capable of supporting proliferation and differentiation of human adipose tissue derived mesenchymal stem cells (AD-MSCs) into kidney cells. We compared two detergents, the sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and triton X-100 for decellularization. The efficiency of these methods was assessed by Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E), 4', 6 diamidino-2-phenylindole and immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate the intra/perioperative fluid management and early postoperative outcomes of patients who underwent radical cystectomy with Enhanced Recovery After Surgery protocol, using goal-directed fluid therapy compared to conventional fluid therapy.

Methods: This cohort study included patients who underwent open RC for urothelial bladder carcinoma with intent to cure and Enhanced Recovery After Surgery protocol between May 2012 and August 2019. Patients who had palliative or salvage cystectomy and/or adjunct procedures, as well as those with missing detailed perioperative data were excluded.

To evaluate the incidence and natural history of radiologic incisional hernia (IH) in patients who underwent robotic partial or radical nephrectomy. We retrospectively reviewed the records of patients who underwent robotic partial or radical nephrectomy for kidney tumor in our institution between January 2011 and April 2017. All pre- and postoperative imagings were re-reviewed for detection of IH per Tonouchi classification.

Objective: To describe the feasibility and perioperative outcome of suprarenal resection of inferior vena cava (IVC) in urologic neoplasms without reconstruction.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the patients who underwent suprarenal resection of IVC without reconstruction for urologic neoplasms in our institution between September 2010 and October 2019. Patients' demographic, clinical, radiologic, and 90-day perioperative complications were recorded.

Purpose: Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 2A (MEN2A) is a complex autosomal dominant inherited syndrome characterized by medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), pheochromocytoma and primary parathyroid hyperplasia. In patients with only one or two clinical features, identification of a germ line RET (REarranged in Transfection) mutation is required to make the diagnosis and initiate genetic counseling.

Methods: We analyzed blood DNA from three Iranian families with three generations of MEN2A including 20 affected individuals with MTC and four with pheochromocytoma.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumour (IMT) is a rare spindle tumour that mimics malignant processes. It can affect any part of the body, but rarely occurs in the genitourinary tract. We report a case of urethral IMT in a 31-year-old female.

Introduction: Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) is the treatment of choice for large, extracorporeal lithotripsy failure stones and those in the inferior calyx. Despite the development of new techniques and the increasing experience in recent decades, complications may still occur. Colonic perforation is one of the most dangerous and rare complications of PCNL, which may lead to peritonitis and sepsis.

Purpose: Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) has been the preferred procedure for the removal of large renal stones in Iran since 1990. Recently, we encountered a series of devastating neurologic complications during PCNL, including paraplegia and hemiplegia. There are several reports of neurologic complications following PCNL owing to paradoxical air emboli, but there are no reports of paraplegia following PCNL.

Purpose: To evaluate the outcome of laparoscopic retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (LRPLND) using bipolar electrocoagulation instead of clipping the lymphatic vessels.

Materials And Methods: Between August 2002 and April 2008, a total of 13 patients underwent transperitoneal LPRLND for nonseminomatous germ cell tumor of the testis. In this experience, in contrast to other techniques, we did not use clips for ligation of the lymphatic vessels; instead, we used bipolar cautery for coagulation of the lymphatic vessels.

Purpose: We report our experience with laparoscopic bilateral retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (RPLND) in 4 patients with stage II testis cancer.

Materials And Methods: Between January 2002 and January 2009, 4 patients with stage II testis cancer underwent laparoscopic bilateral RPLND. In 2 patients, laparoscopic bilateral RPLND was performed for residual mass post-chemotherapy.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to describe our experience with laparoscopic simultaneous bilateral dismembered pyeloplasty in two pediatric cases by using three midline ports.

Methods: A 5-year-old boy and a 5-month-old male infant with bilateral ureteropelvic junction obstruction underwent bilateral laparoscopic transperitoneal dismembered pyeloplasty. A 10-mm trocar was placed through the umbilicus, and two 5-mm trocars were also placed in the midline superior and inferior to the umbilicus.
