Cutaneous malignant melanoma (cMM) can develop at any site, but one-third of cases primarily affect the lower extremities, with ankle and foot lesions representing 3-15% of all cases. However, cMM may become a clinical conundrum when it presents as chronic ulceration that is clinically indiscernible from other lower extremity ulcers in patients with diabetes. We present the case of a 71-year-old female patient with a longstanding history of diabetes, hypertension, obesity, chronic kidney disease and heart failure who presented to our hospital with a fungating heel ulcer.

Biopsies taken from the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) comprise a significant percentage of the pathologists' routine work. The variable histology and normal components of each organ along the GIT, as well as the different ways of responding to injury among these organs, can cause morphological changes that could result in potential diagnostic pitfalls. Herein, we review the pathological conditions of the GIT that could cause these diagnostic pitfalls.

Background: Pyruvate kinase M2 (PKM2) has a central role in both tumor development and metastasis, and it has increasingly become a valuable subject for many cancer studies due to its important prognostic value in various tumor types. In this study, we aimed to elucidate the impact of PKM2 expression level on breast cancer prognosis and survival rates and its association with various clinicopathologic characteristics and tumor markers in breast cancer patients.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective study included sample tissues from patients with breast cancer who did not receive chemotherapy or radiotherapy before surgery.

Aims: Transglutaminase (TG) inhibitors represent promising therapeutic interventions in cardiac fibrosis and related dysfunctions. However, it remains unknown how TG inhibition, TG2 in particular, affects the signaling systems that drive pathological fibrosis. This study aimed to examine the effect TG inhibition by cystamine on the progression of isoproterenol (ISO)-induced cardiac fibrosis and dysfunction in rats.

Transglutaminase (TG) isoforms control diverse normal and pathophysiologic processes through their capacity to cross-link extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins. Their functional and signalling roles in cardiac fibrosis remain poorly understood, despite some evidence of TG2 involvement in abnormal ECM remodelling in heart diseases. In this study, we investigated the role of TG1 and TG2 in mediating fibrotic signalling, collagen cross-linking, and cell proliferation in healthy fibroblasts by siRNA-mediated knockdown.

Olanzapine (OLZ) is one of the second-generation antipsychotics drugs (APDs) used to treat several psychiatric illnesses. Olanzapine treatment is often associated with many metabolic side effects in a dose dependent manner such as obesity, dyslipidemia and insulin resistance, induction of type II diabetes and acute pancreatitis in some patients. Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy (HBOT) was investigated as a tool to mitigate olanzapine metabolic side effects in rats.
