Evaluation of the effect of empagliflozin on prevention of atrial fibrillation after coronary artery bypass grafting: a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial.

This study is aimed at evaluating the effect of empagliflozin in preventing atrial fibrillation after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Eighty-two patients who fulfilled the inclusion criteria were allocated to the empagliflozin group (n = 43) or placebo group (n = 39). In two groups, patients received empagliflozin or placebo tablets 3 days before surgery and on the first three postoperative days (for 6 days) in addition to the standard regimen during hospitalization.

Evaluation of the effect of crocin on prevention of atrial fibrillation after coronary artery bypass grafting or heart valve replacement: A double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of crocin on the prevention of atrial fibrillation after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and heart valve replacement.

Materials And Methods: 100 patients who were scheduled for CABG or heart valve replacement surgeries were randomly assigned into two groups of treatment and placebo. In the treatment group, patients received crocin tablets from three days prior to surgery and on the first three postoperative days (for a total of six days).

Off-Pump Versus On-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery Outcomes During 6 Years: A Prospective Cohort Study.

Given the ongoing controversy over the risks and benefits of on-pump versus off-pump coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG), we aimed to compare time trends in off- and on-pump CABG long-term outcomes. In this prospective cohort study, the patients who underwent primary isolated non-emergent CABG in Imam Reza Hospital in Mashhad, Iran, in 2006 were followed for 6 years. The patients were contacted to obtain long-term follow-up data such as death, rehospitalization, myocardial infarction, and normal physical activity.

Situs Inversus with Levocardia and Congenitally Corrected Transposition of Great Vessels in a 35 year old Male: A Case report.

Situs inversus with levocardia and congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries represents a relatively very rare congenital condition and most patients are diagnosed in infancy or early age. This case report describes a 35-year old man with congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries which presented with a five month history of exertional dyspnea. A diagnosis was confirmed by transesophageal echocardiogram, showing situs inversus, levocardia, atrioventricular and ventriculoarterial discordance.

Cardiac Calcified Amorphous Tumor of the Mitral Valve Presenting as Transient Ischemic Attack.

Cardiac calcified amorphous tumors (CATs) are an extremely rare nonneoplastic intracardiac masses. They have been reported in the literature in only a few cases. Thus, the incidence, pathogenesis, and best approach to the treatment are not certain.

Primary Pulmonary Valve Leiomyosarcoma in a 35-Year-Old Woman.

Primary cardiac leiomyosarcomas are rare, with a high incidence of local recurrence. Herein, we report the case of a 35-year-old woman who was admitted with right ventricular failure and suspected pulmonary embolism. Upon echocardiography, we detected a mass in the pulmonary trunk that involved the pulmonary valve and led to valvular stenosis.

Right-sided reverse T composite arterial grafting to complete revascularization of the right coronary artery.

Complete arterial revascularization for the right coronary artery is underused mainly due to technical issues. Herein we report on a new approach for complete arterial revascularization of arterial revascularization for the right coronary artery branches. Complete arterial revascularization for the right coronary artery revascularization was performed in 8 patients using a reverse T composite arterial graft.

Giant cardiac hydatid cyst with rare adhesions.

We present a 29-year-old woman who was admitted to the emergency department with shortness of breath. Using echocardiography, a giant multi-cystic mass was detected in the right ventricle, attached to the septal leaflet of the tricuspid valve and basal portion of the interventricular septum. Serologic tests (hydatid cyst antibody) confirmed Echinococcus infection.
