Contamination of the environment with antimony compounds may affect human health through the persistent exposure to small doses over a long period. Sixty growing male albino rats, weighing 43-57 grams, utilized in this study. The animals were divided into 3 groups; each of 20 rats: animals of group I served as control, animals of group II received 6 mg/kg body weight antimony trisulfide daily for 8 weeks with drinking water, and those of group III received the same dose by the same route for 12 weeks.

Aim: The aim of the study was to perform histomorphologic, endoscopic, and radiologic studies of the ileocecal junction (ICJ). A clearer understanding of the anatomical structure of the ICJ may shed some light on its function.

Methods: Histomorphologic studies were performed in 18 cadavers and radiologic in 22 and endoscopic in 10 healthy volunteers.

We hypothesized an anatomical/physiological sphincter and investigated this hypothesis in current communication. The histomorphologic and morphometric studies were carried out in 14 cadavers and radiologic studies in 20; endoscopy studies were done in 16 healthy volunteers. Longitudinal sections along cecum, cecocolonic junction, and ascending colon were stained with H & E and Masson's trichrome stain.

To study the anatomical structure of the colosigmoid junction, 15 cadaveric specimens were studied morphologically, another 15 histologically, and a morphometric study was done in 10 specimens. Specimens consisted of the descending colon, sigmoid colon, and the colosigmoid junction. Histologic specimens were stained with hematoxylin and eosin and Masson's trichrome stain.

Background: In 1988, the World Health Assembly resolved to eradicate poliomyelitis. Although substantial progress toward this goal has been made, eradication remains elusive. In 2004, the World Health Organization called for the development of a potentially more immunogenic monovalent type 1 oral poliovirus vaccine.

Background: Duodenojejunal junction (DJJ) pressure decreased on duodenal contraction and increased on jejunal contraction. These findings postulated potential existence of anatomical sphincter at DJJ.

Methods: DJJ was studied by direct dissection in 34 cadavers and histologically in 24.

Background: Egypt provides ideal conditions for poliovirus (PV) transmission (high population density, high contact rates and low sanitation and hygiene in some areas). Despite excellent program performance, wild poliovirus type 1 (PV1) continue to circulate in 2004. To investigate potential causes for the persistence, we conducted a serological study.

Environmental surveillance for polioviruses has been implemented in Egypt. This paper reports on a study in which 130 sewage samples were collected between January 2001 and December 2001 from eight provinces of Egypt. Samples were analyzed by virus isolation in L20B and RD cell cultures, and wild polioviruses were characterized by sequencing of the VP1 protein coding region.
