The wildfire-like spread of COVID-19, caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome-associated coronavirus-2, has resulted in a pandemic that has put unprecedented stress on the world's healthcare systems and caused varying severities of socio-economic damage. As there are no specific treatments to combat the virus, current approaches to overcome the crisis have mainly revolved around vaccination efforts, preventing human-to-human transmission through enforcement of lockdowns and repurposing of drugs. To efficiently facilitate the measures implemented by governments, rapid and accurate diagnosis of the disease is vital.

Objective There had been an observed increase in the prevalence of depression as well as many chronic conditions of comorbidity among the elderly population of Ireland above the age of 50. The relationship between different prominent conditions of comorbidity and depression scores amongst older adult men in Ireland was sought to be examined and explored. Methods A cross-sectional analysis of data from wave 1 of The Irish Longitudinal Study on Aging (TILDA) had been used for statistical analysis, which served to be the representative cohort study sample of elderly adults living in Ireland aged 50 and older.

Background: A one-channel electrocardiogram (ECG) channel is recommended during electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings principally to help establish ECG or pulse wave contamination of the ECG EEG. However, the ECG recording, in itself, provides useful clinical information, principally the detection of arrhythmias, especially atrial fibrillation (AF), which indicates heart disease that can predispose to embolic stroke and systemic embolism. We sought to determine the prevalence of AF routine recordings in our EEG laboratory in a general hospital.
