Background: Breast cancer (BC) is one of the major health problems affecting females in Egypt. Certain chromosomal loci abnormalities were proved to be associated with BC in different populations. One of them is chromosomal locus 6q25.

Detection of Epithelial Ovarian Cancer using C8Magnetic Bead Separation and MALDI-TOF Plasma Proteome Profiling in Egyptian Females.

Background: Ovarian cancer is the seventh most common cancer in females with the highest mortality rate of all gynecological cancers due to its late discovery and ambiguous symptoms. Thus, there is a need for new promising strategies to diagnose ovarian cancer. We aimed at finding a characteristic plasma proteome pattern that could be used for the detection of epithelial ovarian cancer, in comparison with benign ovarian masses and healthy controls.

Association of Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha-Induced Protein 3 Interacting Protein 1 (TNIP1) Gene Polymorphism (rs7708392) with Lupus Nephritis in Egyptian Patients.

Lupus nephritis (LN) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Previous studies suggest that mutant A20 binding inhibitor of NF-κB 1 (ABIN1) protein encoded by tumor necrosis factor alpha-induced protein 3 interacting protein 1 (TNIP1) gene is associated with LN via NF-κB dysregulation. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the association of TNIP1 gene SNP rs7708392 with SLE and LN in Egyptian patients.

Implementation of quality control performance criteria and approved guidelines for upgrading of clinical chemistry laboratory procedures in Alexandria University hospitals.

The aim of the present work was to assess the quality of work in Clinical Pathology Department, Alexandria Main University Hospital, Egypt; as regards the pre-analytical and analytical phases of testing; for later accreditation. This evaluation was performed using inspection sheets that were designed according to the CAP 2006 recommendations. All checklist questions that could not be answered "yes" were considered deficiencies and had to be corrected before being accredited.

In this crossover study, we compared the peak responses of cortisol to low-dose (1 microg/1.73 m(2)) and standard-dose (250 microg/1.73 m(2)) adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) stimulation tests in 90 full-term newborns (37 to 42 weeks gestational age, birthweight > 2,500 g, aged 4 to 7 days): 30 with sepsis syndrome, 30 with respiratory distress (RD) and 30 normal infants.

Serum leptin concentrations in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus: relationship to body mass index, insulin dose, and glycemic control.

Although obesity is a frequent feature of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM), many patients with type 1 DM are prone to high body mass index (BMI). We measured serum leptin concentrations in a cohort of children (n = 55) with type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM), as well as their anthropometric parameters including BMI, skin fold thickness at multiple sites, and midarm circumference. Glycemic control was assessed by blood glucose (BG) monitoring before meals, and measurement of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and insulin dose/kg/d was recorded.
