Imported yaws in Johor, Malaysia.

Yaws was detected in a six-member family in the southern Malaysia state of Johor. This stresses the need to be vigilant against a long-forgotten disease of childhood which was of great public health concern in the past.

Epidermodysplasia Verruciformis with Multiple Cutaneous Carcinomata Treated with Etretinate.

A Chinese lady, fourth in a family of four unaffected brothers and six sisters affected with epidermodysplasia verruciformis was treated with aromatic retinoid (Etretinate) when she developed multiple recurrent squamous as well as basal cell carcinomas. Etretinate was effective in preventing the occurrence of cutaneous malignancies.

Goat pox in the Sudan.

Out outbreak of goat pox occurred among 60 adult and young goats in the Sudan. Among the findings of special interest was the extensive and wide distribution of pox lesions on the bodies of the animals. The severe involvement of the mucous membranes of the muzzle, eyes and nostrils gave rise to acute respiratory distress and systemic reaction.

A comparative study of age involution of the bursa of Fabricius an thymus in birds.

The differential growth patterns of the bursa of Fabricius and thymus of Comet strain chicks were examined up to 60 days of age. It was found that the bursa increased in size, in relation to body weight, during the first 3 wk of life but thereafter underwent involution. The thymic tissue increased in weight throughout the period of investigation, from 3 to 58 days of age; when this total weight was related to the number of thymus glands, it was found that during the first days of life, thymus tissue was increased by the growth of pre-existing thymic glands but that this was followed by a phase when new thymus glands appeared with no increase in the size of the largest glands.
