A Comparative Three-Dimensional Finite Element Study of Two Space Regainers in the Mixed Dentition Stage.

Objectives:  This study aims to compare the stress distribution and displacement that resulted from the use of a Gerber space regainer and sagittal distalizer using three-dimensional finite element analysis.

Materials And Methods:  Three-dimensional simulated models of the appliances were developed using a software. The forces applied by the two appliances were 3N (tipping) and 15N (bodily), respectively.

Adherence to endocrine therapy and its relation to disease-free survival among breast cancer patients visiting an out-patient clinic at Khartoum Oncology Hospital, Sudan.

Rationale: Adherence to endocrine therapy provides substantial reduction in breast cancer (BC) relapses and improve survival. Hence, non-adherence remains an under reported issue mainly in developing countries.

Movement Disorders Due to Selective Basal Ganglia Lesions with Uremia.

Background: Basal ganglia (BG) lesions are rarely reported in patients with uremia and may manifest by movement disorders. However, their exact incidence and pathogenesis have not been extensively studied. This study aimed to determine the frequency, types, risk variables (clinical, laboratory, and imaging), and manifestations of BG lesions with uremia and patients' neurologic outcomes.

Synthesis and biological evaluation of pyrazolone analogues as potential anti-inflammatory agents targeting cyclooxygenases and 5-lipoxygenase.

New pyrazolone derivatives structurally related to celecoxib and FPL 62064 were synthesized and biologically evaluated for their inhibitory activity against cyclooxygenases (COXs) and 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) and their selectivity indices were calculated. The results showed that compounds 3f, 3h, 3l, and 3p have an excellent COX-2 selectivity index. Moreover, they showed potent 5-LOX inhibitory activity relative to celecoxib and zileuton, as positive controls.

Pulsed Radiofrequency on Thoracic Dorsal Root Ganglion Versus Thoracic Paravertebral Nerve for Chronic Postmastectomy Pain, A Randomized Trial: 6-Month Results.

Background: Pharmacologic treatment is not successful in all cases of postmastectomy pain syndrome (PMPS). Some patients continue suffering pain while taking their medications, and others cannot tolerate the side effects of antineuropathic analgesics. Radiofrequency technology has provided promising results in the management of chronic neuropathic pain.

New benzenesulfonamide scaffold-based cytotoxic agents: Design, synthesis, cell viability, apoptotic activity and radioactive tracing studies.

A new series of thiazolidinone (5a-g), thiazinone (9a-g) and dithiazepinone (9a-g) heterocycles bearing a benzenesulfonamide scaffold was synthesized. Cytotoxicity of these derivatives was assessed against MCF-7, HepG2, HCT-116 and A549 cancer cell lines and activity was compared to the known cytotoxic agents doxorubicin and 5-FU where the most active compounds displayed better to nearly similar IC values to the reference compounds. For assessing selectivity, the most active derivatives against MCF-7, 5b, 5c and 5e, were also assessed against the normal breast cell line MCF-10 A where they demonstrated high selective cytotoxicity to cancerous cells over that to normal cells.

Chemerin level and the relation to insulin resistance in chronic kidney disease.

Chemerin has been associated with different components of the metabolic syndrome, including hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and insulin resistance (IR). The aim of this study was to evaluate serum chemerin level in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients and its relation to IR. This study was conducted on 80 participants who were classified into three groups: Group I (30 CKD patients with mean age 53 ± 12 years), Group II (30 patients with end-stage renal disease on regular hemodialysis with mean age 48 ± 14.

Gunshot injury to the kidney in pregnant women is extremely rare describing a significant cause of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. This case report demonstrates the management of renal trauma by presenting 24years old third-trimester pregnant women who sustained gunshot wounds to the abdomen. Renal trauma management has evolved in the last decades from immediate surgical exploration to non-operative management (NOM).

The effect of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation on cognitive impairment in Parkinson's disease with dementia: Pilot study.

Background: The exact mechanism of cognitive impairment in PD is not known. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has been proposed as a possible treatment for cognitive impairment and to treat the motor symptoms in Parkinson's disease (PD) where its effects seem additive to those of dopaminergic medications.

Objective: In this pilot study we investigated whether repeated sessions of rTMS have an effect on measures of cognitive impairment in patients with PD dementia.

Molecular Dynamics Study of Poly(dimethylsiloxane) Nanostructure Distortion in a Soft Lithography Demolding Process.

This study aims at investigating the distortion of poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) nanostructures in a soft lithography demolding process using molecular dynamics simulation. Experimental results show that after peeling, PDMS nanopillars became 10-60% longer in height than the mold size. Molecular dynamics simulations have been employed to plot the stress-strain curve of the nanopillars when subjected to uniaxial stress.

EnteroBase is an integrated software environment that supports the identification of global population structures within several bacterial genera that include pathogens. Here, we provide an overview of how EnteroBase works, what it can do, and its future prospects. EnteroBase has currently assembled more than 300,000 genomes from Illumina short reads from , , , , , , and and genotyped those assemblies by core genome multilocus sequence typing (cgMLST).

Indomethacin Enhances Type 1 Cannabinoid Receptor Signaling.

In addition to its known actions as a non-selective cyclooxygenase (COX) 1 and 2 inhibitor, we hypothesized that indomethacin can act as an allosteric modulator of the type 1 cannabinoid receptor (CB1R) because of its shared structural features with the known allosteric modulators of CB1R. Indomethacin enhanced the binding of [H]CP55940 to hCB1R and enhanced AEA-dependent [S]GTPγS binding to hCB1R in Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cell membranes. Indomethacin (1 μM) also enhanced CP55940-dependent βarrestin1 recruitment, cAMP inhibition, ERK1/2 and PLCβ3 phosphorylation in HEK293A cells expressing hCB1R, but not in cells expressing hCB2R.

Impact on core values of family medicine from a 2-year Master's programme in Gezira, Sudan: observational study.

Background: Training of family physicians should include not only clinical and procedural skills, but also core values as comprehensive care, continuity of care, leadership and patient-centeredness. The Gezira Family Medicine Project (GFMP) is a 2 years Master's programme in family medicine in Sudan. We assessed the impact of GFMP on the candidates' adherence to some core values of family medicine.

A modified technique to fabricate a complete hollow obturator for bilateral maxillectomy in a patient with mucormycosis-A technical case report.

Maxillectomy performed in acquired lesions is often very extensive or bilateral, sparing very less hard and soft tissue in the oral cavity. These defects need both surgical and prosthetic rehabilitation. A definitive prosthesis is inserted after complete healing, when the patient is accustomed to the interim prosthesis.

Primary Hepatic Lymphoma Presenting as an Acute Abdomen in a Young Female Patient: A Case Report and Literature Review.

We report a rare case of primary hepatic lymphoma (PHL) in a hepatitis B virus- (HBV-) infected young female patient who presented with right upper abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting for a few days. The preoperative diagnosis was difficult due to the rarity of the disease and the presence of a solitary hypodense mass in the left lobe of the liver on contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) scan with a normal alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and negative cytology. She underwent an uneventful extended left hemihepatectomy, and the surgical biopsy revealed a PHL-of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) type-with negative resection margins.

Growth of a gas bubble in a perfused tissue in an unsteady pressure field with source or sink.

In the context of decompression sickness, this paper presents analytical formulae and explanations for growth of a gas bubble in blood and other tissues in an unsteady diffusion field with a source or a sink. The formulae are valid for variable (through decompression) and constant (concerning diving stops/at sea level) ambient pressure. Under a linear decompression regime for ambient pressure, the gas bubble growth is proportional to ascent rate, tissue diffusivity and initial tissue tension and inversely proportional to surface tension, initial ambient pressure and the strength of the source/sink parameter [Formula: see text] which gives the conditions for bubble growth.

Qualitative and quantitative analysis of the uptake of lipoplexes by villous placenta explants.

Controlled distribution of a drug by its association to a nanocarrier is a promising approach for the treatment of pregnancy disorders such as preeclampsia. For this application, tracking both the nanocarrier and the drug is necessary to ensure the safety of both the mother and the foetus. This study reports a method to visualize and quantify the uptake of liposomal formulations in placental tissue using florescent labelling and appropriate analytical tools.

Methods: This phase I, prospective, multicenter, randomized, single-masked, placebo-controlled, parallel-group study was conducted between 2 February 2016 and 14 September 2017 at three US study centers.

The Effect of High-Frequency Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation on Advancing Parkinson's Disease With Dysphagia: Double Blind Randomized Clinical Trial.

We investigate if rTMS has a therapeutic role in the treatment of dysphagia in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). . Thirty-three patients with PD and dysphagia were randomly classified with ratio 1:2 to receive sham or real rTMS (2000 pulses; 20 Hz; 90% resting motor threshold; 10 trains of 10 seconds with 25 seconds between each train) over the hand area of each motor cortex (5 minutes between hemispheres) for 10 days (5 days per week) followed by 5 booster sessions every month for 3 months.

Outcome of orthotopic sigmoid versus ileal neobladder reconstruction.

Introduction: Radical cystectomy with orthotopic urinary diversion is considered the gold standard for treatment of muscular invasive bladder cancer or high-risk nonmuscular invasive bladder cancer. The choice of orthotopic neobladder reconstruction depends on the clinical outcomes of it and should be planned with the patients, especially the risk of incontinence.

Methods: this study included 52 Egyptian patients underwent radical cystectomy and orthotopic neobladder reconstruction with sigmoid (25 patients) and ileal (27 patients) segments.

Analysis of global and local stress changes in a longwall gateroad.

A numerical-model-based approach was recently developed for estimating the changes in both the horizontal and vertical loading conditions induced by an approaching longwall face. In this approach, a systematic procedure is used to estimate the model's inputs. Shearing along the bedding planes is modeled with ubiquitous joint elements and interface elements.
