Background: The increasing use of nanoparticles (NPs) necessitates investigation of their impact on wastewater treatment processes, particularly anammox, a critical biological nitrogen removal pathway. This study explored the effects of short-term exposure to TiO, ZnO, and Ag-NPs on anammox activity in enriched cultures derived from River Nile sediments.

Materials And Methods: Anammox bacteria were identified and enriched, with activity confirmed through 16S rRNA and hydrazine oxidoreductase (hzo) gene amplification and sequencing.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to identify the optimal sizes for middle cerebral artery (MCA) bifurcation aneurysms that are most suitable for treatment with the Woven EndoBridge (WEB) device, focusing on aneurysm width and neck dimensions.
  • Using a large retrospective database, the researchers analyzed unruptured MCA bifurcation aneurysms and established ideal cutoff values of 6.1 mm for width and 4.6 mm for neck size regarding treatment effectiveness.
  • Findings indicated that aneurysms smaller than these cutoff values had significantly higher rates of occlusion (93% for width and 90% for neck) and lower retreatment rates compared to larger aneurysms, highlighting the importance of

Article Synopsis
  • - The Woven EndoBridge (WEB) device is used for treating wide-neck intracranial bifurcation aneurysms smaller than 10 mm, but there's limited data on its effectiveness for larger aneurysms.
  • - A study reviewed data from the WorldWide WEB Consortium involving 898 patients to compare outcomes between small and large aneurysms, using propensity score matching (PSM) for accuracy.
  • - Results showed that large aneurysms had significantly lower rates of adequate occlusion and higher rates of retreatment compared to small aneurysms, suggesting that these findings could influence treatment choices and patient discussions in the future.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers aimed to identify factors predicting aneurysm occlusion and retreatment following WEB embolization due to limited existing studies.
  • The study reviewed data from 763 patients across 30 institutions, finding a 65.1% complete occlusion rate at follow-up and a 7.3% retreatment rate.
  • Key negative predictors for complete occlusion included smoking history, larger aneurysm size, and wall branch presence, while intraprocedural occlusion significantly improved long-term outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • This study examined how taking antiplatelet medications before and after procedures affects the risk of thromboembolic complications (TECs) in patients treated with the Woven EndoBridge (WEB) device for specific brain aneurysms.
  • It analyzed data from multiple centers, involving a total of 1412 patients, to determine if antiplatelet drugs reduce the likelihood of TECs, finding that those who took them before the procedure had a significantly lower risk.
  • The study concluded that while preprocedural antiplatelet use significantly lowers the chances of TECs, the effect does not carry over when the medication is taken post-procedure.

Background: The Woven EndoBridge (WEB) devices have been used for treating wide neck bifurcation aneurysms (WNBAs) with several generational enhancements to improve clinical outcomes. The original device dual-layer (WEB DL) was replaced by a single-layer (WEB SL) device in 2013. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness and safety of these devices in managing intracranial aneurysms.

Introduction: Primary and secondary studies are considered the two major research categories. In this study, we examined the scientific and social media impact of primary and secondary publication types in papers published radiological journals during 2010-2020.

Materials And Methods: PubMed publication type tags were used to filter original articles and systematic review and meta-analysis (SR/MA) articles.

Article Synopsis
  • The Woven EndoBridge (WEB) device is effective for treating intracranial aneurysms, yet the postoperative use of aspirin shows varied practices among clinicians.
  • A multicenter study involving 1492 patients compared outcomes between those who took aspirin post-surgery and those who didn't, revealing that aspirin users had better functional outcomes and lower mortality rates but higher rates of retreatment.
  • The findings suggest that while aspirin may improve recovery and reduce death rates after WEB treatment, it also increases the likelihood of needing additional procedures, indicating a need for further research on optimal postoperative care.

Background And Purpose: The Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score (ASPECTS) is a widely used scoring system for evaluating ischemic stroke to determine therapeutic strategy. However, there is variation in the interobserver agreement of ASPECTS. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to investigate the interobserver agreement of total and regional ASPECTS.

Pancreatic surgery is considered one of the most technically challenging surgical procedures, despite the evolution of modern techniques. Neoplasms remain the most common indication for pancreatic surgery, although inflammatory conditions may also prompt surgical evaluation. The choice of surgical procedure depends on the type and location of the pathologic finding because different parts of the pancreas have separate vascular supplies that may be shared by adjacent organs.

Background And Purpose: Predicting patient recovery and discharge disposition following mechanical thrombectomy remains a challenge in patients with ischemic stroke. Machine learning offers a promising prognostication approach assisting in personalized post-thrombectomy care plans and resource allocation. As a large national database, National Inpatient Sample (NIS), contain valuable insights amenable to data-mining.

Kidney stones have been associated with an increased risk of chronic kidney diseases, end-stage renal failure. This study is devoted to isolate nanobacteria from patients with active urolithiasis and investigate the in vitro and in vivo antinanobacterial activity of some antibiotics alone or in combination with extracts of irradiated herbs from certain medicinal plants. Nanobacteria were detected using scanning (SEM) and transmission (TEM) electron microscopy, protein electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and DNA profile.

Background: Clinical trials addressing large core acute ischemic stroke (AIS) are ongoing across multiple international groups. Future development of clinical guidelines depends on meta-analyses of these trials calling for a degree of homogeneity of elements across the studies. This common data element study aims to provide an overview of key features of pertinent large core infarct trials.

Background: Successful recanalization after endovascular thrombectomy serves as the primary endpoint in clinical trials and is a crucial predictor of long-term outcomes. Radiographic outcomes for various interventions have been shown to vary based on the type of interpreter, including the site interventionalist compared with an independent reader.

Objective: To compare angiographic outcomes in stroke thrombectomy procedures based on the type of reader.

Twenty new N-substituted-4-phenylphthalazin-1-amine derivatives were designed, synthesized, and evaluated for their anticancer activities against HepG2, HCT-116, and MCF-7 cells as VEGFR-2 inhibitors. HCT-116 was the most sensitive cell line to the influence of the new derivatives. In particular, compound 7f was found to be the most potent derivative among all the tested compounds against the three cancer cell lines, with 50% inhibition concentration, IC  = 3.

Kidney stones composed of oxalate are a significant health problem. It has been suggested that modification of the intestinal microbiota to reduce the amount of oxalate in the digestive system could be an effective treatment. There have been several studies into the use of lactic acid bacteria for the degradation of intestinal oxalates.

Thirty-five new colchicine binding site inhibitors have been designed and synthesized based on the 1,2,4-triazin-3(2H)-one nucleus. Such molecules were synthesized through a cascade reaction between readily accessible α-amino ketones and phenyl carbazate as a masked N-isocyanate precursor. The synthesized derivatives are cisoid restricted combretastatin A4 analogues containing 1,2,4-triazin-3(2H)-one in place of the olefinic bond, and they have the same essential pharmacophoric features of colchicine binding site inhibitors.
