The impact of outpatient inpatient management on health-related quality of life outcomes for patients with malignant pleural effusion: the OPTIMUM randomised clinical trial.

Background: The principal aim of malignant pleural effusion (MPE) management is to improve health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and symptoms.

Methods: In this open-label randomised controlled trial, patients with symptomatic MPE were randomly assigned to either indwelling pleural catheter (IPC) insertion with the option of talc pleurodesis or chest drain and talc pleurodesis. The primary end-point was global health status, measured with the 30-item European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Core Questionnaire (EORTC QLQ-C30) at 30 days post-intervention.

Metabolic Syndrome Screening and Nutritional Status of Patients with Psoriasis: A Scoping Review.

Patients with plaque psoriasis have an increased risk of metabolic syndrome. However, no studies have assessed the nutritional status or screening methods of this population. This review aimed to identify and summarise metabolic syndrome screening criteria and the tools/methods used in nutrition assessment in patients with plaque psoriasis.

Effect of Different Light-tip Distances on Shear Bond Strength of Orthodontic Brackets Cured with Light-emitting Diode and High-intensity Light-emitting Diode.

Aim: The aim was to find out whether the light-tip distance affected the shear bond strength of orthodontic brackets when cured with light-emitting diode (LED) and high-intensity LED at four different light-tip distances.

Materials And Methods: Extracted human premolars were divided into eight groups. Each tooth was embedded in the self-cure acrylic resin block, and brackets were bonded and cured with different lights and different distances.

In recent years, previously reported studies revealed a high efficiency of pollutant degradation by coupling photocatalysis and electrochemical processes (PECs) using titanium dioxide (TiO) photoelectrode rather than using photocatalysis or electrocatalysis alone. However, some of the TiO photoelectrodes that have been reported were not cost-effective. This is due to the use of expensive chemicals and certain expensive equipment in the fabrication process, other than involving complicated preparation steps.

Soil-Transmitted Helminth Infection in Malaysia: Protocol for a Scoping Review.

Background: Soil-transmitted helminth (STH) infection is 1 of the 20 notable neglected tropical diseases according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and World Health Organization. In 2010, it is estimated that 1.73 billion people are infected with STH globally, of which 70% of cases occur in Asia.

SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence among healthcare workers from a tertiary care center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Objectives: To calculate the seroprevalence of asymptomatic healthcare workers (HCWs) in our institution.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study among asymptomatic HCWs in a large hospital during the peak of the pandemic (from July to August 2020 and followed them up until February 2021) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. We collected the data in a Microsoft Word document after collecting a single serum sample for detection of antibodies from each participant then we compared the results statically in Microsoft Excel tables.

Abdominal tuberculosis in a tertiary care centre in Saudi Arabia.

Objectives: Abdominal tuberculosis (ATB) is the second most common type of extra-pulmonary tuberculosis. Though it does not usually pose a significant risk of infectivity, ATB can go unidentified and progress to disseminated infection. The aim of this study is to highlight the incidence and outcome of this infection in a tertiary care centre in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).

Quality of life and its associated factors among older persons in Malaysia.

Aim: Quality of life (QoL) among the older persons provides valuable insights into the potential modifiable risk factors that affect well-being in later life. This study aimed to describe the QoL and psychosocial factors of QoL of older persons in Malaysia.

Methods: We used the 19-item Control, Autonomy, Self-realization and Pleasure scale, a validated instrument that measures psychological well-being related to QoL in older persons.

Assessment of Systemic Inflammatory Markers in Patients with Aggressive Periodontitis.

Background: "Aggressive periodontitis (AgP) is a destructive disease characterized by the following: The involvement of multiple teeth with a distinctive pattern of periodontal tissue loss; a high rate of disease progression; an early age of onset; and the absence of systemic diseases.'' Chronic low-level bacteremia and systemic inflammatory response have been suggested as a pathogenic link between periodontal disease and systemic disease. The present study was aimed to assess the levels of systemic inflammatory markers in patients with AgP.

Influence of erbium, chromium-doped: Yttrium scandium-gallium-garnet laser etching and traditional etching systems on depth of resin penetration in enamel: A confocal laser scanning electron microscope study.

Objective: This study was performed to assess the resin tag length penetration in enamel surface after bonding of brackets to identify which system was most efficient.

Methodology: Our study was based on a more robust confocal microscopy for visualizing the resin tags in enamel. Totally, 100 extracted human first and second premolars have been selected for this study and were randomly divided into ten groups of 10 teeth each.

Improving the dynamic characteristics of body-in-white structure using structural optimization.

The dynamic behavior of a body-in-white (BIW) structure has significant influence on the noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) and crashworthiness of a car. Therefore, by improving the dynamic characteristics of BIW, problems and failures associated with resonance and fatigue can be prevented. The design objectives attempt to improve the existing torsion and bending modes by using structural optimization subjected to dynamic load without compromising other factors such as mass and stiffness of the structure.
