Prevalence and determinants of thrombocytopenia in newborn unit at Alexandria University Hospital: a three-year report including 1000 patients.

Background: Thrombocytopenia might be the only clinical clue of diseases in neonates. Classification of thrombocytopenia according to severity, onset offset, nadir and duration might help in identification of the etiology.

Aim: This study aims to estimate the prevalence and, identify the determinants and patterns of thrombocytopenia among neonates.

Modified natural kaolin clay as an active, selective, and stable catalyst for methanol dehydration to dimethyl ether.

In this work, the production of dimethyl ether (DME) from methanol over natural kaolin clay modified through impregnation with various percentages of HSO, WO, or ZrO catalysts was investigated. The prepared catalysts were characterized via X-ray fluorescence, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and N-sorption analysis. The acidity of these catalysts was determined through the dehydration of isopropyl alcohol and the chemisorption of pyridine.

Potential role of circulating microRNAs (486-5p, 497, 509-5p and 605) in metabolic syndrome Egyptian male patients.

This study aims to evaluate the expression pattern of circulating microRNAs (miR)-486-5p, miR-497, miR-509-5p, and miR-605 in the serum of metabolic syndrome (MetS) Egyptian male patients. In this study, the circulating miR-486-5p, miR-497, miR509-5p, and miR-605 were amplified and quantitatively detected by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction in sera of 55 MetS male patients in comparison to 20 male controls. The level of fasting plasma glucose and triacylglycerol (TAG) were measured using calorimetric assay.
