This article investigates the effect of varying breast tumor size on the fluence rate distribution within a breast model during the diffuse optical imaging procedure. Early detection of breast cancer is of significant importance owing to its wide spread among women worldwide. Mastectomy surgery became very common due to the late detection of breast cancers by the conventional diagnostic methods such as X-ray mammography and magnetic resonance imaging.

Diabetic nephropathy (DN) has high prevalence and poor prognosis which make it a research priority for scientists. Since metformin, a hypoglycaemic drug, has been found to prolong the survival of mice with DN. This study aims at investigating the molecular mechanisms leading to DN in rats and to explore the role of leucine-rich α-2-glycoprotein-1 (LRG1), activin-like kinase1 (ALK1), and transforming growth factor-β (TGFβ1) in the pathologic alterations seen in DN.

Hybrid prostheses have recently been used as suitable treatment alternatives for edentulous individuals to restore the mastication mechanism. These prostheses utilize "All on four" concept, in which four implants are inserted into the jaw bone, and supported by a bar. Titanium is usually used in the fabrication of "All on four" parts due to its good mechanical properties.

Designing a healthcare facility is one of the most challenging tasks due to the complexity associated with these facilities. The primary goal of healthcare facilities is to provide high-quality care; consequently, the design of healthcare facilities and their environments directly affects the facility's productivity, the organization's economic performance, the experienced clinical outcomes in the hospital, as well as patient and staff satisfaction. The redesign of a healthcare facility is essential for ensuring a serene healing environment for the patients and thus influences their healing rates, reduces the amount of time spent in the facilities, and impacts their level of satisfaction with the care provided.

In this study, we aim to explore the beneficial therapeutic impacts of dapagliflozin (Dapa), a highly potent, reversible, and selective sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitor, and liraglutide (Lira), a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, as hypoglycaemic agents for the management of diabetes mellitus (DM), as well as their combination against DM-induced complications, including hepato-renal injury. Indeed, the progression of DM was found to be associated with significant hepatic and renal injury, as confirmed by the elevated biochemical indices of hepatic and renal functions, as well as histopathological examination. Dapa, Lira, and their combination effectively attenuated DM-induced hepatic and renal injury, as confirmed by the recovery of hepatic and renal functional biomarkers.

The present study provides a noninvasive, safe approach for brain tumor detection by numerically analyzing the optical fluence rate at the scalp. The proposed numerical investigation demonstrates the application of different laser wavelengths for identifying different types and volumes of brain tumors (glioma "grade II astrocytoma" and meningioma). The proposed method analyzes the spatial fluence rate distribution over the surface of the head after probing it with different infrared laser wavelengths (1000 and 1100 nm) to distinguish between normal and brain tumors.

The current study aims to assess the protective effects of dapagliflozin (Dapa; a sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitor) and/or liraglutide (Lira; a glucagon-like peptide 1 agonist) in an experimental model of diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM). A single dose of streptozotocin (STZ) was administrated to male Sprague-Dawley rats by intraperitoneal injection at a dose of 50 mg/kg to induce diabetes mellitus (DM). Dapa (1 mg/kg, orally), Lira (0.

Lung cancer is one of the most common types of malignant tumors of the respiratory system and has the highest rates of incidence and mortality of malignant tumors. This study aimed to synthesize and characterize berberine-loaded chitosan nanoparticles (BBR-COSNPs) and to evaluate their protective effects against urethane-induced lung cancer. Forty male albino mice were divided into four groups, with the first serving as a negative control and the other three groups were injected intraperitoneally with urethane (1 mg/kg b.

Flat plate solar collector is one of the main solar collectors that has a simple structure, reliable operation, large heat preoccupation area, and low cost. Its drawback is the low heat transfer between the working air and the absorber plate. A solar air heater of V-shaped transverse finned absorber having new designed absorber plate of lateral gaps and central holes to enhance its performance is investigated experimentally at single-pass and double-pass airflow conditions.

In colon cancer, wingless (Wnt)/β-catenin signaling is frequently upregulated; however, the creation of a molecular therapeutic agent targeting this pathway is still under investigation. This research aimed to study how nitazoxanide can affect Wnt/β-catenin signaling in colon cancer cells (HCT-116) and a mouse colon cancer model. Our study included 2 experiments; the first was to test the cytotoxic activity of nitazoxanide in an in vitro study on a colon cancer cell line (HCT-116) versus normal colon cells (FHC) and to highlight the proapoptotic effect by MTT assay, flow cytometry and real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).

Microvascular complications of diabetes mellitus are progressively significant reasons for mortality. Metformin (MET) is considered as the first-line therapy for type 2 diabetes patients, and may be especially beneficial in cases of diabetic retinopathy although the precise mechanisms of MET action are not fully elucidated. The current study was designed to inspect the antioxidant and modulatory actions of MET on DRET in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats.

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a sudden viral contagion that appeared at the end of last year in Wuhan city, the Chinese province of Hubei, China. The fast spread of COVID-19 has led to a dangerous threat to worldwide health. Also in the last two decades, several viral epidemics have been listed like the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) in 2002/2003, the influenza H1N1 in 2009 and recently the Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) which appeared in Saudi Arabia in 2012.

The ability of quinoline alkaloids (cinchonine, cinchonidine, quinine, and quinidine) to sensitize different human cancer cell lines to doxorubicin (DOX)-induced cell death was evaluated. Cell viability was analyzed using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay and the alkaloids ability to enhance DOX-induced apoptosis was explored using Western blotting analysis. Also, flow cytometry was applied to analyze cell fractions in the different cell cycle phases.

Objectives: This study exploited finite-element modeling (FEM) to simulate breast tissue multicompression during ultrasound elastography to classify breast tumors based on their nonlinear biomechanical properties.

Methods: Numeric simulations were first calculated by using 3-dimensional (3D) virtual models with an assumed tumor's geometric dimensions but with actual material properties to test and validate the FEM. Further numeric simulations were used to construct 3D models based on in vivo experimental data to verify our models.
