Objective: As one of the remarkable host responses to SARS-CoV-2 infection, circulating microRNAs (miRNAs) represent important diagnostic and prognostic diseases biomarkers. The study is a step towards highlighting the role of miRNAs in COVID-19 pathogenesis and severity.
Methods: In this case-control study, miRCURY LNA miRNA PCR plasma panel (168 miRNAs) was applied and the expression of the altered miRNAs was then analysed by quantitative real time PCR for 120 COVID-19 patients (30 mild, 30 moderate, 30 severe, and 30 critical) and 30 healthy subjects.
Background: Egypt faces a significant public health burden due to chronic liver diseases (CLD) and peptic ulcer disease. CLD, primarily caused by Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, affects over 2.9% of the population nationwide, with regional variations.

Exposure to toxoplasmosis has been proposed as a theory to explain the diversity of these populations. The aim of the present study was to investigate the possible association between latent toxoplasmosis and COVID-19 and its probable correlation with markers of oxidative stress, C-reactive protein (CRP) and ferritin.

However, this disease is often not diagnosed, and accurate data on its epidemiology are limited in many geographical regions, making it challenging to provide proper care and implement effective national plans. To combat the increasing disease burden, screening and diagnosis must reach a significant number of high-risk subjects.

However, a considerable number of patients develop fatal acute respiratory distress syndrome due to the cytokine storm and imbalanced immune response. Several therapies depending on immunomodulation have been used, including glucocorticoids and IL-6 blockers.

Two epigenetic events, DNA methylation and histone acetylation, are crucial for modifying the chromatin architecture and the location of regulatory elements such as promoters and enhancers. In this case-control study, we evaluated the expression of genes involved in epigenetic machinery (DNMT1, DNMT3A, DNMT3B, HDAC2, and HDAC3) and the degree of methylation of promoters of immune response genes (IFITM1/2/3, TLR3/4, TNF-α, NF-κB, and MYD88) as well as global methylation (LINE-1 and global 5-mC) in blood samples from 120 COVID-19 patients (30 mild, 30 moderate, 30 severe, and 30 critical) and 30 healthy subjects without COVID-19.

Pulmonary manifestations are reportedly the main clinical presentations of COVID-19 patients. Scientists are working hard on a myriad of clinical, epidemiological, and biological aspects to better understand SARS-CoV-2 infection, aiming to mitigate the ongoing disaster.

Early screening techniques are essential in the diagnosis and assessment of disease progression. This consensus was designed to clarify the role of lung ultrasonography versus other imaging modalities in the COVID-19 pandemic.

Introduction And Objectives: Data on the use of single step dilatation technique during pediatric percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) in the literature is sparse. In this prospective randomized study, we aimed to compare the safety, efficacy, and perioperative complications of single step versus serial tract dilatation using Alken metal telescopic dilators during pediatric PCNL.
Methods: Patients undergoing PCNL were randomized into two groups according to the dilatation technique used.
Introduction: COVID-19 severity and mortality predictors could determine admission criteria and reduce mortality. We aimed to evaluate the clinical-laboratory features of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 to develop a novel score of severity and mortality.
Methodology: This retrospective cohort study was conducted using data from patients with COVID-19 who were admitted to five Egyptian university hospitals.
Objectives: To compare the clinical performance and surgical outcomes of the new digital single use flexible ureteroscope (WiScope) with a reusable digital flexible ureteroscope.
Patient And Methods: Our prospective study includes patients with renal stones less than 2 cm who underwent retrograde flexible ureteroscopy and laser lithotripsy. Patients were randomized into two groups: group A included patients who underwent laser lithotripsy using WiScope Single use digital flexible ureteroscope and group B included patients who underwent laser lithotripsy using reusable flexible ureteroscope.
Background And Aims: Ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD) are the most common types of Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), with variable responses to traditional therapies and unpredicted prognosis. In Egypt and most developing countries, the lack of recent epidemiological and prognostic data adversely affects management strategies. We collected and analyzed data of patients with IBD from multiple centers across Egypt to evaluate patients' clinical and epidemiological characteristics.

However, the disease caused widespread illness and death worldwide, and new sequelae are still being discovered. SARS-CoV-2 RNA was isolated from the fecal samples of some infected patients.

Materials And Methods: This is a retrospective analysis of females complaining of periurethral and urethral cystic swellings referred to our tertiary center, who underwent MRI for preoperative planning in the period from January 2014 till January 2021, with a total number of 57 patients. Data retrieved from the medical records included: patients' demographics, presenting symptoms and signs, preoperative radiological investigations, duration of symptoms, previous surgical intervention, detailed intraoperative data, postoperative complications, and postoperative follow-up.
Efforts toward eradicating the Hepatitis C virus (HCV) have advanced rapidly, due to the development of direct-acting antivirals (DAAs), especially with the appearance of pan-genotypic combinations. Real-world studies, in particular, have verified the efficacy and safety of DAA combinations documented in registration trials. This review documents the results of using DAA combinations in real-life settings in everyday clinical practice in Egypt, the country with the highest prevalence of HCV.

This multicenter prospective study aimed to evaluate the nutritional status of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 and its association with their clinical outcomes. Sociodemographic, physical, clinical, and nutritional data of 121 patients with confirmed COVID-19 were collected upon admission and at discharge from three COVID-19 quarantine hospitals in Egypt via a questionnaire and a standardized scale.

Identifying risk factors associated with severe SARS-CoV-2 infections is of paramount importance to protect HCWs and the non-infected patients attending different healthcare facilities.
Purpose: To recognize the predictors for severity of SARS-CoV2 infection among HCWs working in either COVID-19 or non-COVID-19 healthcare settings.
Objectives: Stress incontinence is the most common type of urinary incontinence in females. Recently, the gold standard treatment is mid-urethral tapes, however their efficacy is questioned in intrinsic sphincter deficiency (ISD). In our study, we try to adjust the tension applied during transobturator tapes (TOT) to evaluate its effectiveness in ISD, in order to prevent obstruction or failure and persistence of stress urinary incontinence.

However, the availability of effective antibacterial and antifungal agents is becoming increasingly limited with growing resistance to existing drugs. In response to that, novel agents are critically needed to overcome such resistance.
