Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to better understand severe serine biosynthesis defects by examining prenatal and postnatal effects in 12 unrelated Egyptian families with suspected Neu-Laxova syndrome (NLS).
  • Researchers employed fetal ultrasound, postnatal assessments, and whole exome sequencing (WES) to analyze this new cohort and reviewed existing literature for a broader context.
  • Findings included novel clinical signs and the identification of several genetic variants, expanding the understanding of serine biosynthesis disorders and highlighting the importance of prenatal exome sequencing.

Background: Depo-medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) functions as a contraceptive method by inhibiting the secretion of gonadotropins, which prevents follicular maturation and ovulation, as well as thinning of the endometrium leading to unscheduled vaginal bleeding and subsequent discontinuation of DMPA. Our study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of clomiphene citrate (CC) in stopping bleeding among DMPA users.

Materials And Methods: We randomly assigned 200 DMPA users using a computer-generated random numbers table in a 1:1 ratio to one of two groups; the study group, which received CC at a dose of 50 mg twice daily for five days (n = 100), and the control group, which received a placebo for five days (n = 100).

Objective: To investigate the efficacy of vaginal probiotics administration in combination with prophylactic antibiotics versus antibiotic prophylaxis only on perinatal outcomes in women with preterm premature rupture of membrane (PPROM).

Methods: Four different databases were searched from inception till March 2023. We selected randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that compared vaginal probiotics along with antibiotics versus antibiotics only among pregnant women who were presented with PPROM between 24 and 34 weeks of gestation.

Objective: Saline vaginal douching prior to intravaginal prostaglandin application might increase the vaginal pH, leading to improvement of prostaglandin bioavailability, by which the outcomes of labor induction can be greatly improved. Thus, we aimed to evaluate the effect of vaginal washing with normal saline before insertion of vaginal prostaglandin for labor induction.

Study Design: A systematic search was done in PubMed, Cochrane Library, Scopus, and ISI Web of Science from inception to March 2022.
